911 3.2 Carrera performance

what are the usual steps in getting a little more performance out of the 3.2? headers/intake/cams/ecu... how much power do these typical bolt-ons yield and what are the next steps?

thanks

I installed an Autothority chip on mine and, since my heat exchangers are in perfect condition, changed the muffler to a single inlet/dual outlet Fabspeed exhaust for sound effect and looks only as I don't think there is a performance increase in it. You can choose to put the SSI or Dansk early style heat exchangers and suitable muffler for a power increase but it is expensive to do so and only worth it, in my opinion, if you must get new exchangers anyways. I would recommend against getting a carbon fiber look airbox... maybe the MAF that Autothority makes? I haven't tried it to know wether or not it may be worth it. This that I've mentioned is if you just want to stick to bolt on mods. If you want to go all out, you can put Euro pistons and reprogram the ECU so that you get the higher compression and power of the Euro version and there are all sorts of packages out there to increase displacement also. If you go that route, you may have to spend money on brake upgrades and it might be best to just get a 964 or 993 if you start getting into high expenditure of money because you won't get your money back at resale. Just my opinion.

Check out Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook.

I have the B&B 1 3/4" headers and muffler and a Steve Wong (911chips.com) chip. That and replacing the air flow meter with a MAF are about the only things you can do without tearing into the engine.
A Steve Wong chip will be the most noticable change you can make. Look at 911chips.com for some dyno graphs showing what kind of power different configurations should yield.
Of course, you can always turbocharge it...

Yep, headers/heat exchangers, muffler, air intake/filter, and a chip to adjust fuel and spark for added airflow, is about what you can do outside the motor. Those are good for about 10%/25 HP. Beyond that, you tear into the engine, and change displacement, compression, cams, & valves; and then you upgrade headers, muffler, and air induction all over again to accomodate the new engine internals.
