Newbee My First Porsche

well yesterday i was given my father's 1974 911. it currently is not running and needs some work. the body is in pretty good shape. it has not run in about 10 years. i am gonna attempt to get it running. i found this website and i have a service manuel so i guess i'm gonna try to get it running. any tips or advice anyone is willing to give i would love to here it. i know i'm gonna put some money into it but the price was right (free). things i do know are that it has a bad fuel pump and the motor does turn. i'm pretty sure it also has a bad master cylinder. any other 1974 people out there got any advice?

thanks

jim

Good luck on getting it running. If you haven't found it already, Pelican Parts is a great place to get the parts you'll probably need and they have a fairly healthy DIY forum over there.

You have a good dad. Do lots of homework regarding starting it up before you do so. Could save a few headaches later on. Enjoy!

Join your local PCA. The PCA website and Panamera mag have lots of good info. There has been a few articles in the Panamera mag about what should be done before trying to start a car that has been sitting that long. You may also want to find a good local Porsche mechanic and talk to them. Do it right and it can work. Do it wrong and you'll need an engine rebuild.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, research is the most important part. Buy every manual for your year you can find. They all have something useful in them. Besides Pelican, you might try Vortex sense they are in Florida http://www.vertexauto.com/ your local PCA can be helpful too.
