All:

I have searched for answers and still seek some sage advice. I am looking at an older model aircooled, manual trans Pcar to use as a daily driver. Currently I have a 2011 997TT with a few enhancments that I really enjoy but it gets me into trouble at times. And no, it wont be going anywhere.

I THINK I would really enjoy an older model, that is mechanicaly and cosmeticly sound, but that has potential for a bit of freshening here and there. I love the older simpler cars that I can work on myself and may be reliable enough for daily commuting here in South Florida. I would enjoy hearing your opinions on year and model. I really dont have any hard and fast thoughts on this and think anything from early 70s to the early 90's could be fine, but then I am no expert.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts

Just my opinions:

before 1977 rust was a real problem...
1984 and after the engine got larger and computer controlled, less adjustment necessary...
1987 to 1989 new transmission G50 heavier but stronger and shifts more easily...

I like the 1987-89 cars. I just sold an 04 996TT and just purchased a 1987 Carrera, I'm having a blast doing little cosmetic stuff etc. These cars are slow compared to modern turbos but still alot of fun.
