Different size wheels on early 911?

We all know that my rear tires (285 40 15's) are no longer available. I'm on my last set of these tires on 15x9 Fuchs in the back. I'm looking at couple of places that will take my 16x9 Fuchs that I have stored in the garage, cut out the center part of the wheel and attach that to a 17 in rim. I run 225 50 15s in the front on 15x8 Fuchs.

1. If you know about about the above process, do I have to be concerned about my "spirited" driving running these remanufactured wheels?

2. Could I keep my 15s on the fronts while running the 17s on the back? Any implications on this setup?
