My brother has a 1999 911 C4 and his batteries had continually been going dead as it sits for periods of time. A local German vehicle repair shop told him that his ECU has failed causing a continual battery drain. They quoted him a cost of $3200 Cdn to purchase a new ECU and then likely another hour of labor from Porsche Germany to reprogram the ECU to recognize keys and security system etc.

Is there an option outside of a new ECU and what he has been quoted? Any help would be appreciated. If it matters the ECU he has in his car is a Bosche unit with a product code of: 996.618.685.00

Sorry...the Porsche is a 2001 Not a 1999.
