My step-father ordered a 1979 911sc Targa petrol blue/black and owned it until 1991 when he bought a 1991 Turbo and I bought the 911 my first. Owned the car until 1998 when I traded it in on a 1994 Speedster. Saw my old car later that year at Porsche event at Parts Haven and talked with the owner. Mailed him the records I had and the original window sticker and COA. Kept in email contact with him for the last 22 years every year asking him if he was going to sell I wanted to buy the car back. Monday he emailed me that he was selling. After a few phone calls and emails with lots of photos I bought the car back. Shipped picked it up yesterday and will have it by Friday in Scottsdale. This car along with the Speedster I kick myself about selling and I am so happy I am able to buy i back. Now I have a decision to leave it as it is and just fix anything that needs fixing or restore the car with a bare metal respray and restore or replace everything that needs replacing. 1979 1998
Got it Friday and spent Sunday washing it and cleaning it up along with adjusting the hood latch as the guy used a bra so I had to tighten it. The car is a 10 footer, the paint is 42 years old and showing its age. The rubber moldings around the front and rear windows need replacement as they are starting to rot. The seats are gong to need a good cleaning, the dash is great with only a small crack about 1/8 of an inch at the vent. Targa top is in good condition and the the seals around it are very nice. The engine is clean and to my amazement does not leak any oil. The glass clean and clear with no crack or delamination. What will need to be done is the visors are toast and the inside material is coming apart and both need replacement. Needs new tires and the chrome on some of the spokes is pealing but the painted part is like new. The car will need paint as you can see all kids of stuff in and its starting to come up. I just have to make the decision to keep it the way it is or paint it which would mean lots of new parts along with old parts restored and refinished.
Nice honest car. I would replace what you need to, do a full service, valve adjustment, all fluids and filters, caliper rebuilds, replace master cylinder, flush gas tank, replace all fuel injection lines, etc., polish, wax and enjoy.
