"73/74 with the 2.0 are not my cup of tea."
Why???
I would agree. I've owned 20+ 914's. Try for as little rust and as pristine / complete as possible. Many parts are NLA and $$$$$$.

Assuming this is a 2.0, but I'm not positive you couldn't get the appearance group with the 1.7. Either way, I'm afraid my first response is to be optimistic about what I should ask for my '74...

Even if the pictures are good, remember: "Trust, but verify." Always do or get an inspection before you finalize the deal.

Here's hoping it's everything you're looking for!

Thanks Steve.

Yes, the 2.0 and haven't seen pics yet. Have a call in to Tony Heyer, the car's mechanic for over 30 years. It's a ton of miles(200+) even on rebuild!

It is a metric buttload of miles, and this is where I'm out of my depths, because: I wonder when you need to worry about metal fatigue and chassis flex, even if there's no sign of rust amidships. But I literally have no idea if it's a concern unless the car has had the typical rust issues in the past. Hopefully somebody like 914rrr with a lot more experience than I have can clear this up.

As for miles on the rebuild - well, if it ain't leakin' or smokin', keep smilin'.

There are a number of kits available to weld into and stiffen the chassis. Some sit inside the longitudinals and across the floor pan at the firewall, there are others that go around or outside the longs (haven't seen those myself). Just that if there is any kind of concern it seems like it can be addressed. I've got one of the inner long kits from Engman to go into my -6 someday, hopefully followed by a decent paint job. That's as much because I've got the SC motor in there as anything else - 40+ years and an extra 100HP seems like asking a lot...

Heh - not to hijack the thread or anything... I still have to write up an ad, but you can see far too many pictures on Flickr. Note that the first half of that set were taken a couple years ago, the latter half about a month ago. I'll follow up with you via email, but thought the link worth sharing here.

Lightbulb 914 year to own

1976 was the first year that Porsche galvanized dipped the chassis against rust. I would be looking for a 1976 galvanized dipped 914.

I agree,

I own a 74 2.0 too and was about to sell it to buy the 930 turbo.

But I resisted the temptation and kept it. Love the damned thing.

I have a 74 2.0 that I bought about 6 months ago. After doing a bunch of research, I landed on 74 as my ideal year due to power, look, transmission and availability. It's a work in progress, but here she is:
