Cool Any major changes between 83-89?

I am in the market for a 930S. I have a 996, but I've always admired the 930S. Trying to read as many 930 forums as I can, however there is not too much information on major changes during the last 5 years of production (cosmetic or engine).

I read that the last year (1989) a 5 speed was offered (from a description of Andre Agassi's 1989 930S white cab for sale).

Between 83-89, are there any big differences I should know about? Or more importantly, any major negatives about those latter years?

Thanks.

The 1986 model was the first year back for the federalized 911 Turbo. 86-88 are all basically the same car, and as you mentioned the '89 had the 5 speed gearbox.

'83 to '85 will be an imported gray market car.

'83 to '85 has a 4 speed trans, not the 5 of the later cars. There is a slight difference in the front bumper and how the fog lights are integrated. Maybe a few subtle interior changes. Oh and an extra brake light thing on top of the spoiler on the later cars.

The only year for the 5 speed 930 was '89. All prior years had the 4 speed.

Gotcha. I have heard though of people swapping out the 4 speed for a 5 speed, that must have been what I was thinking of...

Hold out for a 1989

If I were you, I would find the best 89 I could. The 5 speed is so much better than the 4 speed. You can shorten the gear ratios in the 4 speed but the 5 is still better. The 86 thru 88 is still a great car.

In addition to the difference between the 4 speed 930 tranny and the G50 five speed, the 89 went to a hydraulic assist clutch...the 87 has a mechanical clutch.
