Slantnose Authenticity
Slantnose Authenticity
Hi
I am lookin at buying a 1986 930 slantnose and would like to know if it is a factory car or one that was later modified. It does have the 505 in the serial number. WP0JB0933GS050529. Also was this car made for the US market.

I am not 100% sure, but I think factory S/N (M506) cars were built from (US) March of 87-89, euro s/n cars from 81?-86 were special wishes.
WBOJB = US car
WPOJA= Canada
WPOZZZ = Euro

The 505 in the serial number is just coincidental. The M505 option code applied only to the US '87 thru '89 production cars. M506 was for the euro cars of the same years. The one you are considering being an '86 was not part of either run obviously. So special wishes it would have been.
There are distinct clues to look for on the '87 thru '89 cars but it can be a bit more tricky with the earlier cars which seemed to have a wider selection of customer defined options.
Oh and to answer your other question it would not have been originally made for the US market. That was the purpose of the M505 cars (again '87 thru '89 only)

I'm not too sure about the "Special Wishes" cars because....as was said previously, the special wishes program incorporated "special wishes"....or special options into the cars at the buyer's request. There were Porsche factory slants made prior to 87-89 under the special wishes program, but they were not identified by any option codes (M505 and M506). The main things to look for is the oil cooler radiator in the passenger rear fender well (US cars...driver on the left); a single motor that drives (raises/lowers) the headlight buckets by a round bar that runs from the motor in the center inside the front hood to either side; the slant front and louvered fenders are steel NOT fibreglass; and the square jack points in front of the rear wheels located in the side rockers. Those are some of the quick and easy lookie-sees to check. There are a lot more, but those are the easy ones.
