Clogged Cat?
Clogged Cat?
I have a 1987 930, just wondering if any other owners or previous owners have had to replace their catalytic converters. We did have to replace it once before, but the car is not driven much. Took it out for a drive today, and it started only developing .4 / bar of boost. The independent Porsche Mechanic thinks I have a clogged cat again.
If so, what have you guys used for replacements, I am wanting to keep the car as much original if possible, but the factory cats have not been reliable.

Yes, they are notorious for failing. There are many slightly used, and some new on ebay.
I have a Borla exhaust that is only slightly louder than stock and eliminates the cat, it exits on the drivers side and looks stock. I'm going w something more aggressive, pm me if interested.

What did you replace it with?
My neighbor has an 86 930 that she had a similar problem with. Took the exhaust off and found the cat material had imploded/disintergrated. Took a large flathead screwdriver and a crowbar and knocked all of it out so that the cats were empty cans. Re-installed system and it worked perfectly. Even passed smog.
