Actually, they were pretty inspiring to drive . I was a youngster in high school when they came out and I remember clearly the day a salesman took us (my uncle who got me started on Porsches was looking to purchase one)out for a ride in a 77 and 79 930 back to back. I couldnt tell any difference really except for the braking power. Although the intercooler and bigger brakes did make a difference on the 78 on 930, the 76 and 77's were no slouches. And as mentioned, it was the in power to weight ratio.
I have a 77 930 today that still has the original 3.0. With minor mods and an intercooler added, its making 430 plus rwhp. The combo with a little lighter body is pretty fun.
