Need help ID'ing car

Guys,

In the attached pic, if the car on top is a 964, and the car below that is a 930, what is the car on the bottom? Thanks.

It looks like the first production 911 turbo. I cant remember the chassis designation. (Havent woken up yet).

Bajo is correct. It is a 76-77 3.0 .930 Turbo. They went with the 3.3 in 78 and changed out the rear spoiler.

Correct.:)

The second geration "turbo's" were not available into the US. Only way you were able to buy them was on the Grey Market.

Carrera "Turbo Look" ???

Divexxtreme Jan 20, 2007 04:14 PM

Oh I see, so the bottom two cars are both 930 Turbos...but the primary difference between them is the increase from 3.0 to 3.3 liters.

Thanks guys.:)

Scott,

You got something "cooking" ? LOL

I swore to myself that after I get myself another GT2, beit a 997GT2 or 996GT2 I have to have the "original" bad boy itself, the 1976 Porsche 930 is an icon to me as I remember my brother working at the Porsche dealership and getting a ride in one when I was 12yo, it sticks with you forever.

Bajo

That is correct. My dad had a euro 78 (300hp) when I was a kid and it was amazing.

US did get the 3.3l, just not until '86. The larger spoiler was basically changed to fit the intercooler that was added.

US actually did get it in '78-79

Correct
Just a momentary lapse of thought.

Not at all. Intercooler, bigger better suspension and brakes, better chassis to. The Carrera turbo was simply a base 911 chassis with wide fenders and a 3.0 turbo engine. Not very inspiring to drive.

They also added side impact protection beams in 1985, the Gen II '78-'89 models had larger disc brakes (304Fr and 309 Rr vs. 283Fr and 290 Rr) and 4 pistons instead of two. You will notice a large braking difference between the two models. True that the engine went up from 300HP to 330HP however the HP/weight ratio was worse on the new models by about 4%, so they had very similar acceleration numbers. (+350lbs on the new models).
Cheers
