1987 944 S Started up after Long sit

So, as stated in the title, this car has been sitting for quite a while. Here's a little background:
It's my son's car. It's been sitting in the driveway for about a year, as he bought another car and stopped driving the Porsche even though it was still driving ok. It was simply a matter of buying a more reliable (i.e. not having to mess with/fix it all the time) and faster Subaru WRX. In any case, he'd like to get the 944 back to a solid driving state. With this in mind, after checking oil and fluid levels, we put a jump on it yesterday and cranked it over. Believe it or not, it fired right up, albeit a bit noisily. It sounded to me like the upper end of the engine was dry - it did get a little quieter after running for 30 seconds or so, but it still wasn't nearly what it should have sounded like, so we shut it down. Any ideas what's going on here? Oil pump? Something else? I would think it's not good to run it in this condition... As stated earlier, the oil level is good and it's clean oil, as it was changed shortly before he stopped driving it. Where should we start?

Hmmmm, 68 views no bites... Not even a hunch/guess? More info needed? We've done a little bit of work to this thing in the past, so not afraid to tear into it - In fact, the plan is to bring it up to a space I have (two car garage) and really tear into it. The big question at this point is how we get it there (it's about 6-7 miles away) drive or tow.
