Did Porsche make a 944 Turbo S in 1988 other than the Silver/Rose color for the US?

As it states. I've seen some 1988 944 turbos and seller are saying that they are "S" but are not in the silver/rose color. As far as I knew it, all 1989 turbos were the S model but in 1988 only the silver/ rose color cars were actually the "S" model. Is that true?

Thanks!

Porsche only made the "S" in 88 in the Silver Rose color.(247hp, LSD, 928S4 Front Brakes, the "S" wheels, Konis, bigger sway bars etc)
In 89 all 944 Turbos had the same options than the 88 "S" had. However, there were some late 88 Turbo's that came equipped with the 89 & "S" options that were not Silver Rose Quartz metallic. (I have seen a red, a white and a black one) but I am not sure how many were made.
If I was looking for one to keep, I would try and find a real 88 "S". These are great cars.

I'm looking for a keeper but I want an 89. I've seen some 88 but I not sure they are true "S" s. I know the silver/rose are but I not crazy about that rose int. would like a red or black 89 S with low miles and not stories.

By the way how was the Mens Toy event at the stadium. I know the Ferrari club, Lambo club and Scottsdale car club were invited and went. I was out of town in LA. I would have loved to take a car also.

It would be very easy to tell if an 88 has the 89 options, if the car is here in AZ, I would be happy to look at it with you. I have owned several and am very familar with them.
My father used to have a White on white leather (and white Carpet) 89 with the Turbo script ont he right front fender. He sold it with 10,000 miles on it. He won every concours he went to with it and I beleive the current owner won a few himself. That was a sweet *** car.

I had a white one back in 1991 but I sold it. (Needed the money.) Since I've had two red ones but both were 88 and now I want a 89. I was in San Diego at the Parade and a guy had a black 89 with only 20k miles. He was the original owner and I really liked that car. He said he doesn't want to sell it now but will call me when he does. I have the 968 that I autocross in, but that 89 944 Turbo is a car I've always liked the look of.

Porsche did produce the Turbo "S" in 1988 in colors other than Silver Rose, mine is an 88 and black,

Turbo-S Color Breakdown
The available information concerning the colors of the vehicles with the "S" option is somewhat sparse. According to Morgan's book, 718 vehicles with the "S" package entered the US. A separate, unconfirmed source (gary951s@mindspring.com), has provided these color statistics. They total to 715 vehicles, which is very close to Morgan's numbers for the US (718 in above chart).

But were the non Silver Rose cars still considered Turbo "s" even though they were just like the 89's? (Not the limited edition color & interior?) I know they had all of the S options and more power then the regular 217hp 944T, but were they really "S"'s?

Yes, I am familiar with the 88's with the S options, (the non Rose cars) but were they considered actual "S"'s by the factory?

I have been told so, and since there were fewer of them, they are worth more

How can you tell if a 88 is a true "S"? Is it in the VIN or does it have a built code in the back by the spare tire?

Bigger brakes, the wheels, koni's, swaybars. Get underneath it. If it's local I can check it out for you.
