964 tuning ( engine going into VW Split Screen)

hi all,

just how far can you tune a standard 1990 non varioram 964. I beleive they have 260 bhp to start with.

Can Turbo kits be fitted?? Any problems with this??? Power gains??
What about supercharging?? Any problems?? Power gains??
How about just plain old tuning?? Power gains??

Is there a different ecu
Can I do away with the twin Distributor.
Ant advise out there guys please.
Thanks,
Frank

canada964 is infamous around these parts
-there is aftermarket chips available, the most popular perhaps being 'steve wong' chip.
little i think in the way of power gains, but i found with my 964 better throttle response & it does reset rev limited upwards.

-there is a bolt on supercharger kit.....TPC, but very pricey.

bear in mind these cars came from the factory with very high compression & accordingly adding forced induction either by way of turbo or supercharger is challenging, and if done really installation to be dependable should be low boost - in the range of say 6 or 7 lbs at best.

common practice is to build engine out 3.8l again pricey, but likely can pull out substantial gains, with strong bottom end.

far better engine for power tweaking is the "from the factory" turbo 930. 3.3l, low compression & relatively easy to enhance......(was the car in Bad Boys 1)

sc is probably the safest bet. call tpc for informationw without having to go in the motor. of course that depends in your motor. if i had to do it all again, i would just add a sc

Hi Andy,

I have done just that. I spoke with Tom at TPC in length and this is the way forward.

1. TPC Supercharger @ 6psi
2. Motec M600 fully sequential injection with uprated injectors , coil per plug (X 12) , full diagnostic Wide Band Lambda ECU
3. 70mm Throttle Body.
4. Water/Air IC. ( Not TPC but larger if room)
5. No Cats
6 Sports exhaust custom built for camper.

Estimated power to be 360 to 400 depending on set up and heat.

Don't even ask how much............ might have to sell the wife......

Ouch she has just read this.
