Launch Control with Winter Tires
Exactly! Glad it isn't a problem with my specific car. At the risk of getting killed by my wife for having yet another set of wheels/tires in the garage, do you think getting 20 inch drag radials for the rear will help, or will the inability to do a burnout to heat them up leave me in the same place - but $2000 poorer?
Turn the traction control off. I thought I'd have the best times with it on, but others have actually v boxed the times and launches with out traction control yield faster 0-60 times. Even though the winter compound is softer, the lack of tread isn't going to give you enough traction anyway. You are bogging at the start simply due to a lack of traction.

Either way, the car's brakes are fighting against the car's ability to accelerate in LC because of the lack of traction due to cold conditions... which is why you see the engine RPM getting dragged down to 2000RPM on LC launches.

BINGO!!
C2S is rear wheel drive. I run my quarters with TC off, this car has AWD and spreads the torque to keep it from going sideways. I run quarters with TC off on the M5 and there you have to manually shift, not so on the TTS. You just can't outshift the computer in low gear. You will always shift too early or hit the limiter, neither produces the best 60 ft.
Ha! I already committed to the rental. What's so funny is that in years past, people were fighting to get into my rentals in December because that's when you had great air and -2000 DA's on a perfectly prep'd track. When I got the TT, I waited until now to take it to the track just figuring it would launch the same way it does on warm days. The irony. Guess I will be brake-torquing at 2500 RPM.
I had same problem with my 997.2 turbo s with stock pirelli zero , i switch to Michelin PSS and traction improve in my case at least 30 % more than the pirellis
i use Mpss for street 30%more grip and Toyo 888 for track 60%more grip
also check your tire pressures 40 plus psi is a lot for perfect launch.

Turn Traction Control off and adjust tire pressure to 32F/38R (some lower tire pressures even more)! AWD (albeit rear-biased) should take care of the stability issues at launch. Let us know the results if you make these adjustments....
If they were more quiet i will use them in the street , they are xxx loud
I will try the pirelli trofeo r next
Because I am now fixated on getting great air and great launches, I am looking into tire warmers from Chicken Hawk Racing for the rear tires. Can get a small Honda generator to power them at the strip. Wondering if there is a jacking point somewhere at the rear of the car - I doubt it. If not, manufacturer said that I can roll onto the warmers and wrap them over the top because the heating elements can withstand the weight.

Gonna start calling you Cole Trickle.
