Porsche 991 Turbo Engine Tuning Power Kit by TechArt

Porsche 991 Turbo Engine Tuning Power Kit by TechArt

The most powerful 911 by Porsche is the 991 Turbo S. With its 560 hp it's more than powerful enough for most of us. Who does want more power can visit TechART. They make the 991 Turbo even 60 hp more powerful thanks to their Techtronic ECU.
With the optimization of the ECU, you can easily boost the power of your car. TechART shows this with their TechART 991 Turbo. They gained an extra 60 hp and 130 Nm of torque from the six-cylinder engine. With a push on the Sport or Sport Plus button, you can use this power.Normally the 991 Turbo is already powerful enough and with only a push on the button you can get a more powerful car when needed. `in Sport Plus, the TechART sprints to 100 kph in 2.9 seconds which is 0.2 seconds faster than normal. Next to that, the top speed is 325 kph, 10 kph higher than normal.
This ECU upgrade comes with a 2-Year, unlimited mileage warranty from TechArt.

As I understand this is a "plug & play" like any other Stage1 power upgrade on turbocharged cars. Now the question is - this will surely void the car's warranty if they ever find out when you send the car in for service or repair. To overcome this issue is it easy (DIY) to unplug it before you send the car in & replug it when is done? It will be a hassle to send it back to a Techart dealer to unplug & replug it every time you send it in for service or whatever. Cheers mate!

Great question! We do have an installation guide available in PDF format. If you can send me a message with your email address I would be glad to provide it. As with anything on the 991, there is no simple task as everything is quite difficult to access. So while the actual wiring the unit itself is not difficult, getting to the DME and routing the wiring can take some time. I would plan on a few hours of a labor at a competent shop as the rear bumper cover needs to be removed. I would not consider this an "easy DIY" job as it is a complete PIN wiring harness and Techtronic unit and needs to be mounted. Sorry for the lengthy reply! Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions: adam@gmpperformance.com

There comes a point where you have to accept that you are on your own as far as warranty coverage. Unless you have a mod friendly dealer you are sol!! This is all part of the actual cost of your upgrades.

I guess my main question would be the cost. $5999 for a stage I piggy back seems to be a pretty weak roi in comparison with other units on the market that make the same or better gains. This kit is also much more than the stage II obd flash that yields much better gains and the ability to switch tunes. I know TechArt makes some nice products, but am I missing something here??

You're paying for the name and the warranty.

Well, on top of being engineered and developed by the premier Porsche tuner in the world, the TechArt unit is warrantied. This covers any related issues to the upgrade (little things like your $70,000 engine, gearbox and drive train) for the duration of the warranty period. Does another unit on the market offer that?

I bet they would if they charged $6,000 for a piggyback box. The warranty verbiage of "issues related to the upgrade" is pretty wormy at best. The dealer would tell you that every failure is directly related to the installation of the box. What's to stop TechArt from saying that a failure is not related to the installation of the box?

Well said, Patrick.

A question to TechArt, I already emailed you through .de website with no response yet. However, who's your dealer in Saudi Arabia? Location & contacts please.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. "Issues related to the upgrade" was simply my reference to the warranty for this thread, and is not the actual verbiage in the warranty itself. If you are legitimately concerned with the pricing or warranty and are interested in the product, you are more than welcome to discuss it directly with myself, or with TechArt.

Here is the exact warranty PDF if you would like to review the coverage or verbiage:

Let's discuss it here so that everyone can benefit from the conversation. First line of the warranty is pretty much exactly as I paraphrased.

"The warranty exclusively covers all damage to components of the engine, gearbox and powertrain of the vehicle
in which the TECHART TECHTRONIC has been installed in accordance with these warranty conditions and which is proven to have been
exclusively caused by the installation of the TECHTRONIC.
"

EXCLUSIONS:

"The warranty undertaking applies exclusively for the vehicle specified in the warranty form and subject to no further modifications having
been made
to engine, gearbox and differential. This applies in particular to additional measures of any kind whatsoever for enhancing
performance and modifying exhaust emissions with the exception of exhaust systems and components approved by TECHART."

Hope you didn't add an IPD, non-TechArt exhaust, race diverters, etc...

"Vehicles which are used in motor sports or for similar events are excluded from this warranty."

Hope you never took it to a track either...

Sorry, GMP. I'm not trying to be a heckler but let's be honest here.

Thank you for the post. Unfortunately, no warranty of any kind would cover issues caused by improper installation or by another manufacturer's product's defects, or any part that is used under race conditions, ever. I would personally never expect any brand to cover it either, and (with my aftermarket experience) am astonished that TechArt even offers a warranty on an electronic device such as this. While I appreciate your point, and understand the need to justify it, please contact us directly if you have any further concerns over the warranty of this outstanding product.

Now.. here's a picture of a TechArt 991 Turbo:

Please find the following link from a reputed firm in UAE:
http://www.armotors.ae/warranty.php

Where I quote "We are offering Extended Warranty for all Porsche models. Our Extended Warranty compare with those offered from the main dealer network at better prices. We will not discriminate any owners who have modified or improved their vehicles. Even those who have decided that their cars be serviced by other companies outside of their main dealers network are eligible for our ARM warranty.

To become accepted for the ARM Extended Porsche Warranty Program, your cars should be younger than 7 years and less than 120,000 km. "

We are discussing two different things here. The warranty linked is an aftermarket warranty for vehicles in the UAE which would be a large additional cost on top of the purchase of the vehicle, we are discussing warranties on aftermarket performance products that are included with the part, and not added later. The quote also does not mention race use, or what exactly is even covered. If you wish, you are welcome to purchase the extended warranty above for your car and all of the aftermarket parts you desire from www.gmpperformance.com ;)
Again, the warranty itself is posted for your review. If anyone has any questions on the warranty, please feel free to email me at: adam@gmpperformance.com

Otherwise, please enjoy the thread and have a wonderful day!
