Why does my Macan Turbo (exhaust) sound soooo much better than the 911tt exhaust, eventhough the latter costs almost double the price.

I've heard the Macan Turbo on four different occasions at my local dealership and I, too, am amazed at the sound. It is louder and better than my '09 Cayenne GTS and also better sounding than any current model sans the 918. I have yet to hear a 991 GT3 or GTS start.

I think (hope?) Porsche is using the V6 turbo platform as the starting point for future 991 flat sixes that will be forced air.

 

Different engine, different acoustics.

 

I know that turbos inherently will not have the same exhaust tone as a normally aspirated engine. However I am curious on how they made the Macan Turbo exhaust sound so good and the 991tt sound so meek. Both are turbo 6 cylinder engines.

 

The inherent flat-6 design has a unique sound compared to a V6. I'm sure having a lot more piping from engine to exit plays a role in sound as well.

 

I've always wondered why the 911 tt exhausts are so quiet in stock form. Other turbocharged cars have much better sounding exhausts. Take the McLaren for example. The 12c's sound great without any mods.
