Differences - 991 Turbo S vs 997.2 Turbo S
So I have a 997.2 Turbo S and there's a couple things I'm not thrilled with...the chassis and steering in particular. Otherwise I love the car.
In simple daily driving "aggressive" cornering conditions, the steering wheel feels very "floaty" and on uneven surfaces there is almost too much feedback. I've shared this with BBI and they have improved the characteristics of the car with some upgrades. But I don't know if this is simply a characteristic of a rear engine car or if it's something where maybe the 991's with the more improved chassis and electric steering have fixed.
Curious if there are some of you coming from a 997.2 who can chime in on you experiences of the differences in that regard.
Cheers.

I’m not sure what you’re used to. I’ve got a 997.2 turbo S and while I don’t track this car, I do have a track experience and competed as a young man in the solo two events. I recently won a track day at the Monticello Speedway hosted by BMW where we did Autocross and the big loop with the M Cars. I won the Auto cross fastest time without knocking down a cone.
in a M240 lol.
I don’t find the steering floaty and as aggressive as I can get with the car, it holds up fine. I did look into a 991 turbo S and the body itself got too big for me.
Now I don’t daily drive the car otherwise I might feel different but I really enjoy the small frame factor of the 997.2 over any of newer 911.
you should definitely go drive some before you buy them. Good luck.

What setup u running? stock pasm or bbi coilovers? that floaty steering sounds like maybe too stiff up front or alignment off a bit. i had the same thing till i messed with toe settings. 991 def feels more balanced tho.
I’d say that’s pretty typical of the 997.2 chassis, the light front end gives that floaty feel, especially over uneven surfaces. The 991 definitely feels more planted and refined in that area, though it loses some of the raw feedback. Sounds like you’ve already done the right thing working with BBI to dial it in.
Hey, I know exactly what you mean. The 997.2 Turbo S is an amazing car, but that light, “floaty” steering feel up front is pretty normal for the rear-engine layout. There’s just not much weight over the front, so on uneven roads it can feel busy or disconnected. The 991 really improved things the longer wheelbase and revised suspension geometry give it a more planted, confident feel. Even though it uses electric steering, most agree it’s more predictable and composed than the 997.
