With the base Carrera going turbo charged in the 991.2, the distinction of the turbo (and turbo S) will likely fade with time...you can already see it now with how the 'base' TT is viewed vs. the TTS! A 500 HP turbo charged Carrera S isn't far away! Turbo, will always be fast and compliant but I predict no longer 'special'. I foresee future debates about which car to buy; turbo-charged Carrera GTS vs. base Turbo!
With the PDK, the GT3 is a beast! I've seen one on the track and it's sweet. It isn't too 'hardcore' for occasional daily duties but will certain retain its exclusivity among either your McClaren, Lambo or Ferrari. Good luck either way.

Not exactly...Macan S and Turbo are both Turbo's, but there's a huge difference between the 2 in performance. Just sayin'...
GT3's are gorgeous, but not the best DD around; the are really designed for the track much more than the street. If you're ready to sacrifice a number of things for the look, GT3 would be the way to go. Not for me though...and as much as I like the GT3, the TTS beats it hands down as a DD, for me. It does everything the GT3 does in the streets, but better.

Because of how you phrased your original post, go with the Turbo S. Almost to 2k miles on mine, and it seems like the best fit. Also, the other car should be a Ferrari, not a Lamb/McLaren
Let's see if I can convince myself one way or the other based on your rationale. When you say, "keep forever" and "I have an RS5 daily," my vote would be the GT3. But...you also mentioned speed and getting rolled by other cars. So that makes the decision a lot tougher.
Keep in mind, by design, I haven't driven a Turbo or Turbo S. I don't want to know what I'm missing, as I know the Turbo is not for me. This may render my comments null, but you asked for it.
I have first hand experience at the power and speed difference of a tuned 991 TTS versus my 991 GT3 at a 1/2 event in Ocala, FL last January. My GT3 trapped 149 from a dig on some pretty crappy pavement. The TTS did 162. So we are talking about like 10 bus lengths in difference. Had we had traction, it probably would have been even worse. So if speed is key, the TTS wins hands down. It's not even close.
For me, it's never been about straight line speed. It is about the experience. The connection of me and the back road. I think it has a lot to do with personality. I could see it out there at that 1/2 mile event. The Type A guys are all driving TT Lambos and highly modified GTRs. They are just better suited for that kind of thing. I get how you could get rapped up in going faster and faster. So I think it comes down to your personality. Are you one that can't resist messing with the M5 that rolls up on you on the highway? Or do you, like me, immediately begin to weigh the consequences of going to jail for doing 175? I'm the latter, so the GT3 wins this argument.
I think you'll know in about 30 seconds which car is for you once you get behind the wheel of each one. I know you'll have a hard time overcoming that sound and experience you get in the GT3. I haven't driven a Turbo, but I think I know exactly what it's like. You'll know. You may be scratching your head, but I think your gut will tell you. Just trust it.
The GT3 for me is the culmination of everything I've been trying to achieve in a car since putting a suspension and exhaust on my Civic. The connectivity of it and the road are key for me.
My guess for you is speed is going to win out versus the connection. Then you'll end up with a GT3 when that power and speed addiction wear off.

What makes the Porsche (GT3 or TT) a forever car? I'm just curious because you haven't driven either car yet but it seems you made up your mind about keeping it forever.
Are cars like the 993TT or 997 GT3 off the table?

Wow, what a day. Today we had the exotic show and afterwards my buddy and I took a friend's new R8 V10 (2011) to get the windows tinted. On the way up I drove his 997.2 turbo cab and that thing was insane. EVO640 kit and IPL y-pipe, diverters, and stock exhaust. What an experience the car had so much power I was able to walk away from the Audi with ease. On the way up 400 a Gallardo popped up and if I had less traffic I could have had him too. The power is so linear and the throttle feel was great. I'm sorry Matt but that turbo power is addictive. I'm still going to drive the other car but right now a turbo with a serious tune is the way to go. Thanks guys!!!!
I'm like you, keep cars I love for awhile (996TT for 8 years). However, I do not consider modern 911s to be forever cars.
18 months ago I bought a rare 1999 Lamborghini Diablo Roadster.....THIS car redefined everything.....THIS is a forever car, unless they keep appreciating out of sight
Would like the same level of experience the next time, and like another poster mentioned, a Ferrari 458 would be the ultimate goal when it reaches $150k......like the Lamborghini, its just something a 911 cannot stand up to as a forever proposition.
