Thanks Jeff. The turbos performed flawlessly on the rally -- reliable and the same level of drivability but it felt good on the top end

Nice kills Scott, I want a ride soon now that the weather is cooperating.

Of course. I wish there had been more competition -- in terms of other PDK 911 Turbos. A stock one beat me at the runway event on Friday -- 35 degree soaked mountain runway at 4500 feet above sea level -- spun and spun trying to launch while the stock one just scooted off the line.

The run way event was silly with all the puddles on the ground. Mine also has full bolt ons, the white one you raced twice. But it was really a matter of who had the driest tires, I beat that miami blue .2 and the other white one with the bigger turbos once or twice .Until another buddy jumped in it, did 3 launches on the way down in it and avoided the water so the tires were perfect and then he beat me by a car and a half with an even launch.

It was silly but fun. 35 degrees and wet makes for some interesting launches. My car is at the point where a lesser modded 991 TT/TTS will beat it in a drag race if mine is wearing regular summer tires. Spin spin spin. No way I was bringing the rear R888s on the rally in the twisty stuff with different tires on the front axle.

The dragstrip was certainly better launch conditions than the runway (70 something degrees) but far from great (no prep once event was underway and super rough surface). That and the fact that the strip was so narrow made for a white knuckler of a ride. Was really missing not having the R888s as my 60 foot times sucked (for a PDK 911 Turbo or Turbo S) -- 1.66 and up.

Well if you care, you can definitely launch hard in the wet but it takes a lot of practice. Even with a highly modified/upgraded turbo car on stock tires. I messed around in a rain a lot on my 997.2 until I could cut sub-3 seconds 0-60. This also enhanced my ability to launch the car in the dry albeit poor surfaces such as unprepped dusty airstrips.

The trick is using LC but significant throttle modulation immediately after launch until the car "catches". Form me it's all by feel now...pretty much intuitive. I probably shouldn't give away my secret but that's it.

I used launch control. I was just on pump tune (607 wheel HP). I never hold the launch control for too long

since the 997 pdk and 991 pdk share the same transmission why is it the 911 and 911.2 launch so much better with 0-60 times? Is it the launch rpm? The hp difference? The weight? It seems like a 997 can launch as good as a 911.2 if you tune the 997 on paper.

I don't think the 991.1 is any quicker from personal experience. It's smoother than the 997.2 but not quicker. Better 0-60 numbers probably from Porsche for marketing purposes. The 991.2 is likely quicker with 50 more HP than the 997.2...that's a 10% power difference which is pretty significant. Even considering the extra weight of the 991.2. But yeah once you start modding then all that goes out the window.

Both the awesome roads in this area and the dragstrip were fun.

All launches were sketchy because of little to no track prep and my street tires trying to handle turbo upgrade power. This was a low traction situation where my results were better with PSM on.
