Tell me your horror stories about out of state purchases
I wanna hear all about it. The shipping delays. The bartering. Hemming and hawing. Hot and cold. How long did shipping take. Did it take months? Years? Did you ever see what you actually bought??
Did you back out on a deal?
I wanna hear it.
Asking for a friend.

OK OK I'll start. Ha - my GTS is already for sale at a dealer and my 991.2 turbo is on a truck headed my way. My GTS was shipped out to the dealer 1 MONTH ago after my new one arrived at the dealer. So it's been 1 MONTH waiting on paperwork and shipment. Is that too long?
Apparently the car is in Colorado somewhere, still upwards of 1000 miles away. Just seems like forever. I've seen pictures of the 991.2 TT but I still haven't seen my car in the flesh. I've heard it exists...THE WAIT CONTINUES.

Fortunately my three private party out of state purchases have gone smoothly, but there are risks. Make sure you have enough documentation, redundancy is good in case it needs to go to litigation. I just bought a 991 Turbo S a week ago, sight unseen, after getting a PPI. Wired the money after a third party took possession of the car and after the seller handed them a signed and notarized bill of sale. Once the money cleared 12 hours later, that's when the seller dropped of the title which ended the transaction. Couldn't have gone smoother.
On the other hand, a buddy of mine flew up to CA a couple weeks before my transaction. They agreed on price beforehand. After flying up to buy the car, only then did the kid disclose his father owns the vehicle and the father didn't authorize any sale. Lesson is, make sure you're thorough. Get pictures of his drivers license, registration, title if he's not financing it, and make sure there's a bill of sale. I'm pretty sure all states have their own standardized bill of sale you can google and download. And make sure that's notarized.
I apologize if i'm all over the place, i'm basically thinking out loud here...

No horror story here, I just received the title yesterday. It took us about two days to agree on the price for their car and my trade. I wired them the money and they sent a truck to pick mine up with theirs on it. That took about a week and then the registration took about a month because the car had to be inspected in Texas and I had to send the original inspection report back to Florida so they could send that to Texas in the registration package.
I bought my car on May 5 and got the permanent plates two weeks ago and the title came in today. The car arrived promptly and with no problems. I would work with Tampa Bay Ferrari again in the future. This was fairly smooth.
