Fabspeed sport cat adventure
Fabspeed sport cat adventure
I decided to finally upgrade the cats in my 991.2 TT. After some research, decided to go with Fabspeed. Bought the cats, was planning the install but plans changed and I needed to head out of town, so I contacted the local Fabspeed authorized distributor/installer and booked an appointment. Dropped the car off for the install. 3 days later, no word on car, so I contacted the shop, was told the passinger side cat did not fit and they were working with Fabspeed (Joe) on a solution. The issue is that the flange was turned when welded and when the holes lines up with the turbo, the exit pipe did not line up with the muffer inlet. Finally, day 4, car is ready, I head up to get it. To my surpise, I have hundreds of dollars of charges for "cat modifications". I asked why they modified the cat and why I was being charged? I was told by the Fabspeed distributor that Fabspeed (Joe) sent them the following "any way you guys could make it fit or function as intended that would be greatly appreciated". The shop said since Fabspeed asked them to modify the cat, that Fabspeed would reimburse me (have that in writing from the Fabspeed authorized distributor), it would be no cost to me. I contacted Fabspeed to discuss reimbursement, talked to Joe and was told they will not reimburse me for the cat mods, that the cat should have been returned for repair or replacement, that was their policy. No issues from me on that policy but that is not what the message to the installer said and why would the "authorized distributor" not know that and tell me to return the product or return it themselves for replacement at $0 cost to me??? I did get a copy of all coorespondence between Fabspeed and the authorized distributor so knew exactly what was said by whom so I wasn't dealing with "he said/he said" crap.
My learnings for the rest of you considering Fabspeed exhaust components
1) They are not "bolt on". Expect to have to make modification (cutting, welding, etc). They either have a quality control issue in manufacturing or they need to remove from their site that their products are "bolt on", they are not.
2) Fabspeed does not stand behind their authorzied dealers. If there are any issues, return everything to Fabspeed even if the authorized dealer tells you Fabspeed has approved what they are doing.
Bottom line, there are many quality products and reputable manufactures out there, save yourself the headache, buy from them. I would not recommend Fabspeed based upon this interaction with them and their authorized distributor network.
Not to be completely negative here, on the good side, no CEL!!
