I would think that most of the hold up on the 997.2's, etc... or current stock of inventory was because most people were waiting to see the release of the 991 and of course the price... but... its pretty high...so I think the 997.1 and 997.2 are going to be still selling well until the further reviews come out... often people are waiting until 2nd generations release anyways... because of fine tuning bugs and issues with the first generation... hense the 05 997's.. had many issues that were ironed out in the 06 and 07's
Highly doubt the 997.2 value hold regardless of the 991's price. My dealer has been sitting on inventory for over 12 months and having a really hard time moving them. "How can I sell someone a 997 when the 991 is where the excitement is. I have to discount it to death to move it - we don't like to show losses on our cars. 8 years ago when the 997 was released people flocked to buy up the 996s but we are not seeing that trend with the 997".

I agree with you assessment of the 997.2 residuals because of the high cost of admission for the 991, however, not so much on the potential reliability of the 991. The 991's heart is basically the same 9A1 engine which started in the 997.2, with very modest power bumps, PDK, same, etc. Other than PDCC and the regenerative braking (which already debuted on the Panamera), I don't really see anything new enough that would worry me. DEMs have been on most of the .2 gt3s and all of the RSs and have also been problem free.
Also, 991 engine is actually not any more powerful. It generates the 400hp at higher rpm than the 997.2, same goes for the torque....

Yes the 991S IS more powerful than the 997S sans x51 in the GTS. It may take more rpm to achieve the additional 15 ponies over the 997S, but it is more powerful nonetheless. The basic engine architecture is the same and based on the 9A1.

I would think that stopping and starting a car all the time would not be good for the engine but what do I know..... However, revving the engine to 7200rpm to get 400hp will be magical specially with a 7 speed manual trans.

for the amount of options, thats not THAT expensive...my mother optioned her 997.2 c4s out to about 125k (coupe) and still could have put more. Awesome sounding car man, pay to play but that thing should be quite the thriller!

I agree it should be magical. I know my .2 gt3 revving to 8400 with a tight gearbox and sport exhaust certainly is.
Regarding auto-off, maybe fractionally worse off for the engine over its lifespan, maybe not. I know you can disable the auto-off feature, which is the second thing I would do each day after selecting sport and/or sport exhaust!
Yes, it should be lots of fun. Hopefully the 7 speed stick will have slightly shorter gearing and closer ratios than the 6 speed because 7th is for pleasing the gov. with better fuel economy. It'll likely be a very tall gear which I don't know I would ever use.

Thanks!!! Your right a 997 gts ( although a widebody) with full leather and similar options is a little more $ than the 991.

Ya, I feel like there are relatively few "new car" purchasers in this thread. Of no offense to any but when you actually spec a car out to what you really want (not like when you find a car on the lot and can deal with whatever it does or does not have), it gets REALLY expensive. Same deal with my R8. The thing started at 115 or something k and ended up being 145 with options...IMHO, the new carrera is every bit the r8 that I ordered, so really at 12x k its a bargain IMHO.
