SM_ATL's Carrera S Journal
I had the same issue when I first tried to fit 18" Innsbrucks a year ago. 19" were OK.
I'd suggest that you start a specific thread about aftermarket/track wheels fitments for the 991 where everybody can share his own experience. You will get more feedback and it will certainly be of interest to many forum members.
Cheers
Serge
Serge, how was your VIR experience? Maybe I missed the pictures... I am interested because I really want to get down there. Also, again not sure if I missed it but hows the third radiator working out? Better temps on the track?
Finally, had the same problem with the red key and the GT3 key ring red colors do not match but its pretty cool though! Need to look for a red and black key ring with a chrome finish - I don't like the porsche red key ring because it has a brass finish.
Cheers...

VIR: my new favorite track!
I just spent 3 days at VIR (full course) for the first time with PCA and it is definitely my favorite track
It combines high speed and technical sections, and the possibility to stay on site overnight is great.
I had set myself a few objectives for the week end: going up one group and qualifying solo in white, hitting 150 mph at the end of the back straight, finding a 100 mph line through the esses and lapping the track in less 2' 15". I missed my last goal (best lap was 2' 17" on street tires on Sunday, my son had already left with my track tires
), so I can not wait to come back!
I have a bunch of videos of glorious and shameful moments that I'll post over the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, here are a few(?) pics. OK, same old red 991S, but I'll never get tired of looking at her...

VIR is a must do track (make sure you can run the full course).
Centre radiator works just fine. I had colder temperature sessions with rain and hot sessions and the water temp always stayed at exactly 194 F.
I share your sense of detail regarding the Porsche red key ring. The brass finish is bling and tacky IMO

First VIR video's
The good: 2'17" on street tires is a good start. With a bit more practice and R-compound tires, 2'10" should be achievable...
The bad: the most embarrassing moments of the week end

I have learned my lesson
Great videos. Thank you for sharing. VIR! What a great track.
Nice job keeping your cool when you overcooked turn one. That could have going sideways in a hurry. I personally can say that I have never overcooked turn 1 at VIR… this month. Join the club.
Just remember there is another club I belong to that you do not want to join. SFE $h1t Flying Everywhere.

Marc: not sure I want to know more about SFE, and do certainly not want to join... but you will have to tell us the story one day.
Chuck: it does not cost more... but makes the car heavier on the track
On other tracks, 1/3rd of a tank is generally more than enough for a 30 minutes session. At VIR, nearly half a tank was not enough!
What is "fast"?
A number of recent threads and posts have gone into the downspiral of non sense about the hp of our favorite cars: the base Carrera is 'underpowered', the Carrera S is slow and you must go for a Turbo, etc.
I enjoy hp and torque and, yes, the kick in the butt you get from a GTR, Corvette or Turbo can be fun. This being said, what use are we making of all this power and do we really need it to be good drivers or go fast
?
I have seen a prime example at the track this week end: a younger driver was there in a 1995 Honda Civic (slightly modified but nothing over the top) and was truly hauling @ss. I have put this short video together to show how a driver skills matter so much more than his car or engine. You will see the little FWD Civic passing 911's and an M3.
So, the next time red light racers are explaining that there is no life under 500hp, I would advise them to buy a $3k Civic with less than 200hp and get some practice first
Here's to the young guy in his Civic!

The lesson is to invest in instruction and save huge amounts of $$ on car mods.
