FUNNY!

That said where's those pics you promised....
How is the bikini model treating you...I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're a happy man!

Re tires, from what I gather the parameters on the PDCC are the same as on rest of the electronically controlled systems which is a 4% margin (rotation p/mile, axle to ground, diameter, circumference, rotational difference between front and rear wheel, etc.)

I'd be very interested to hear from you on how the car with PDCC reacts as I'm looking to change my tires to a different size as well on my PDCC C4S cab.
I'm just going the opposite direction, bigger...much bigger hehehe
Except for the width of the tires (which is considerable) it all still falls withing the 4% rule so it should all work... but (as you know more than most "sane" enthusiast ) some times there's only one way to find out..

In order to reduce the differential %... if I run on comfort pressure vs performance pressure the axle will drop from 10mm higher than stock to (approx.) 5mm more than stock thus effectively also reducing the rotational difference per mile vs stock... it also fills in the wheel-well by 10mm while pushing the sidewall out by 15mm effectively replacing the need for putting a spacer (which I was planning to do) and will protect the rims much more from curb rash...well that's the theory anyway (which has worked with my previous C4S) but this time I'm pushing it a bit more...I can't help myself.
It will look bad@ss and the grip pfwwwww hehehe, crazy!
Plus I just really don't like Pirelli's.

Anyway looking forward to your feed-back...oh and PICS...and VIDS!

Cheers!!

I changed my order last second from classics to these sport techno's (same as your and OPnielsen... so I figured I'm in good company!), they are wider and will be able to accommodate these....

Michelin pilot super sports 335/30 20 rear and 265/35 20 front.

here mounted on a 10.5" rim as opposed to the 11.5 sport techo rims so it won't be as "bulgy".
The only X-factor is whether the front tires are going to rub on full lock... it should be minimal at best but we'll see... don't have a choice since the awd system needs to keep the same ratio between the front and rear... so 265 it is.

A few answers to your questions:

-the GT2 seats "work" (meaning the fit well inside the car) BUT the electrical harness is not 100% the same so indeed you get weight sensor issues that show an airbag error in the dash. We have not resolved this yet (design a proper connector). My belief is that all airbags -except for the seats airbags- would still work.

-You are correct about the sizes of the R888. Idid not have any issues with the previous 991 that did not have PDCC. I do not think PDCC would be more problematic. I'll know more next Friday at the track.

-The Fabspeed headers + sportscats sounded better and made the car feel a bit more responsive. I felt is was a worthwile investment. I do not know what would happen when combine with the X51 kit, or if you would even get a specific tune for the X51 kit any time soon.

Hope this helps!

Serge

Serge - thanks a lot for the info!

Looks like I should order the headers. Some of the forums say that on the 997.2, the headers voided the engine warranty (given some DFI soot issues), but my dealer claims it's fine. PCNA told me to talk to the dealer ;-)

On the Innsbruck wheels & R888 tires - if you don't mind, would love to know where you bought them; I may order from the same source even though I'm in Chicago. Had the R888s on my E46 M3 for track days and just loved them.

For seats, I may go after the P03 seats for the 991 that are offered as an option in Europe (see attached pic from the car configurator on the german porsche website). That should avoid any of the electronics issues. I just wish it was easier to swap them in and out before track days; sounds like it may require reprogramming...
Pretty annoying that with the molded-in headrests, you can't just click in a schroth rally harness ... need seats, rollbar, ...

On the X51 powerkit - it's a bit early to say, I just have 100 miles on it, and it's reasonably snowy here. I think it still requires some break-in before the engine will open up in the upper RPM range (even though suncoast tells me that no-break in is required). Motor still feels a little tight above 5000 rpm; has gotten better over the last 100 miles. So we'll see. What I can say for sure is the following:

1) Seems to have better torque between 2000-4000 RPM. Before, the engine used to feel a bit tired below 4000 RPM, that's gone now. Assume it's due to the valve controlled intake system. A lot more fun in city driving. Unexpected result ...

2) In second gear, fantastic power in the very top of the range; pulls like crazy right into the red line and then does a pretty hard shift (on sport plus). Just tried it once so far; but was quite cool.

3) Motor sounds much better. Even when you turn it on cold, it now sounds awesome immediately. Earlier was muffled when cold, even with PSE button pressed. In general, just crisper and sharper sound; maybe a bit fewer pops and gurgles. I used to open the sunroof to enjoy the PSE sound, that's no longer necessary ;-)) Didn't necessarily get louder, but just sounds awesome.

4) I miss the kick in the pants at around 4000 rpm ... may just be smoothed out (looking at the dyno graph), or engine still needs break-in. Spoke to someone who ordered the car with the X51 option to begin with, and after long break-in, he said it pulls like crazy from 5000rpm to the redline. We'll see!

BTW - like your spare!

Woowww....265 should be awesome. Let us know if they fit / rub! There are a lot of great track tires in that width, so could be interesting for the C2S ... front wheel housings are the same on C2/C4 if I understand that right....

Those seat are beautiful. I would do it but living with them everyday does not look fun. I put kids in the back of my car.

If I calculated it right, the front diameter would be 64.7cm vs 68cm OEM, and rear 66cm vs. 68.5. In other words, the car will sit 16mm lower in the front, and 13mm in the rear. Does that not mess with the sensors for traction control & PDCC?

I run the same 235/35 and 295/30 R888's on my PDCC car and there are absolutely no clearance or electronic issues!

Question about your stainless steel brake lines. Where did you get them? I would like a better feel on the brake pedal. Do not want to do a big brake kit.

Marc
Marc - thanks and good to hear the 991 is fast ;-))) Yes, absolutely planning on Road America. I'm currently registered for the Northwoods Shelby event on June 29-30. What club are you going with? Wouldn't mind some more events ;-))

On the stainless steel brakelines -- I ordered them from suncoast, see link below. They are made by FVD and carry TUV approval for Germany (DOT equivalent). Come with absolutely no instructions and are all same length ... had suncoast call FVD to confirm that the ones with extra rubber protection go in the front. I love the tighter feel with the stainless lines. Same free play till you hit the pressure point/the brakes bite, but then significantly less spongy once the brakes engage. Much improved IMHO. Also, dealer just did a rear brake recall on the car (pads?), and brakes improved a lot more. May not be an issue with yours, mine was delivered last sep and the brakes were never as good as the car I test drove in May when I originally ordered it. Here's the link:

Fully agree! And switching them back and forth before & after events will be a pain ... Serge is right to build a dedicated track car ;-)

Terrific. Thank you for the info. Mine 991 is also almost a year old. I will look into the rear brake recall. The dealership has been pretty good with keeping the car up to date. The brakes on the 991 are very effective just not what I am used to in my race car. I know, I know. This is not a race car. I am just looking for a little better feel that I am currently getting. And I drive a lot of miles so I do not want to make this a track car. Although I do take it out quite a bit.

One note. I do a brake flush before each event. After the last flush the brakes were terrible. He redid the flush and did something different and it fix the problem. I cannot remember what he did. He said it is new for the 991. When I go back I will ask.

I went up with to Road America with the PCA and the March of Dimes Drive for Babies. See videos below. March of Dimes was in the rain and it was really crowded.

PCA

March of Dimes

The car just annihilates everything. Even completely stock. I will look into Northwoods. Here is a list of all events in our area. PCA at Road America is good. They keep things organized and take passing seriously so there are very few incidents. Although they changed rules last year. You can only be in group 1 (fast) if you have a roll bar. I ended up having to wait a lot to pass. But attendance is down so lots of track time. Not sure about running at Blackhawk. It is kind of a POS track. If you get off the track at all you could be going for a very serious ride. Not to mention is punishes brakes. I have heard that MVP Track Time is also pretty good.

We need to talk Serge into coming up here for the summer. Sorry to highjack the thread.

Marc

Funny I was just watching one of the videos of myself driving at Road America. Yes, I watch my own videos. Sometimes I watch a video of me watching me watch a video. But that is a topic that requires Haldol.

I forgot that I was pumping the brake with my left foot before the big brake zones. I remember the brakes being effective but not confidence inspiring. The quick couple of pumps gave a better feel.

Well... I have built my 996 dedicated track car last year... but am finding out that the 991 is SO fast that I am still going to track it The 996 was a fun and nice project though.

So yes, I'll go down the slippery slope once again: GT2 seats are back in the 991, bbi rollbar, 6-point harness and 380mm Brembo BBK will be back on the car next week too, just in time for the track.

Too bad for the kids
