Once I confirm that everything is OK with my car, I will drive exactly as I wish to. I am only concerned in case the low MPG is indicative of a problem.

I am fairly certain that 99.9% of people who will buy a 911 do not care about the gas mileage. If you like revving to the redline, at the expense of gas mileage, by all means go for it.

With this said, I will be $$$ that the actual fuel efficiency will be closer to stated EPA than the 10 mpg you initially reported.
Well, there's always the wear and tear on the car keeping it at 6000 also. Even with the air cooled ones we had a standard of shifting at 4000 most of the time and keeping it above 2000. Now that it's water cooled, they make these long gears for a reason. Take it to the track for some high rev fun.

I would doubt it, but is interesting to know. Most of my new cars mileage improves by 20-30% after they are broken in. I am also sure that the government tests weren't done in the SF City Streets!

Enjoy the new ride!

Have you gotten to the first oil change (break in ) period yet? Usually after a few thousand miles the engines loosen up and consumption gets better.

My 2011 S4 when brand new showed between 13-15 mpg and after the first 5-7k miles it finally started creeping up and im usually around 19-21mpg since

Per dealer I am supposed to get 1st service at 15,000 kms or 1 year (whichever comes first), second service at 30,000 kms or 2 years.

Mine got 27mpg for 100 mile trip back from dealer and I was I sport mode traveling between 70 and 85mpg. Since then going on "test drives with gear heads " computer reported 13.8 mpg. Today in city driving with sport and not using the paddles much the computer reported 17.5 mpg. I briefly tried non sport mode and I felt it up shift 4 gears before I made it to 40 mph and I was bored so I put it back on sport.

Any over/under bets for 6 mpg if one did a tank full of Launch Control starts?

Yea, way too new still. That engine is tight as a ... well you fill in the end of that analogy haha. But let it loosen up a little bit. Get over that 1k mark and see if it starts getting better.

I agree. Regular mode is pretty much like driving my bmw 550i sedan (which doesn't switch off at lights). The start stop seems like it should be in a hybrid.

I dunno.....I don't think the computer registers less than 8 mpg at least in a 997.1. That's what I get at the track regardless of how hard I'm pushing. Also, even after resetting, it can take 150+ miles for the computer to recalibrate it seems. So, to the OP, if you only have 85 miles on the car, I don't think the 10 mpg is telling you anything you can rely on. Best,

I was really expecting to see numbers more like what Spike posted. I'm starting to think there is garbage gas in the tank.

For the city part, yes SF is brutal and I'm literally stopping every block and then gunning it...over and over. The drive home, however, I was on the freeway with light traffic and IIRC I never even did better than 15mpg.

Auto start/stop does not work in sport mode or if A/C is on. Also if you are worried about mpg, then buy a something for that. I am concerned about mpg on my diesel mercedes which gets 40+mpg if I take it easy. On my 2 porsches, my goal is to have fun and keep the revs and torque at its peak. **** the MPG in a porsche.

Auto start/stop DOES work with the A/C on. You are correct in that it does NOT work in sport mode.

My computer consistently reports 18.1 mpg with 30% sport mode driving. I drive 20 miles on 280 and then 7 miles on inner roads.

I get 24.5 instantaneous on highway, but only when I want the car to.

ChuckJ gets 22 in town! wow - is DFI more efficient?

The flintstone house is now Orange with lighter orange highlights.
