Test Drive, 991S vs. 997.1 TT and choices

Today the wife and I went and test drove a black 991s with PDK. We drove our 997.1 TT to the dealership. This was my first test drive of a new 991.

Here are my initial impressions:

997.1 TT as compared to the 991s (IMHO)
RIDE and DRIVE:

The 997 is more visceral/rough sports feel, sweet turbo whine, solid hydraulic handling (with some play/shakes in the front wheels on rough spots). Louder, less refined in interior than the 991 (but our 997 has full leather and difference in some aspects is not as great as one might expect). We preferred the smaller/shorter dash in the 997. The 991 dash is much deeper. The 997 still draws a lot of attention.

The 991 is more refined ride overall, great exhaust note, better daily driver, PDK is worlds better than the tiptronic. It seems you have to use the paddles quite a bit to stay in a lower gear to keep the 991 at it's peak performance wise. Bose system is marginally better than the 997 aftermarket HU I have, sound wise. If you are looking for a daily driver I suggest the 991S. If you are looking for a weekend warrior, get the turbo.

Right now I am on the fence. I have two cars ('07 335i coupe and '07 997.1 TT). If I go for the 991 it will become my DD. Not sure how I feel about that yet. Anyway, hope this gives people in a similar situation food for thought.

That's exactly what I'm going to do, 991S as a daily, TTS as a weekend car with a sense of occasion.

carcommander is infamous around these parts
I bought a 991 and kept my 07 turbo for awhile. I decided I liked the 991 better. I sold the turbo. My 991 will get traded for a 991 turbo when they become available. I have another car that is my sense of occasion car.
