I decided to consign my 993. Not worth letting the dealer steal it.

I was a little surprised at the time it takes. Mine was shipped to Houston and then to San Antonio. It arrived in Houston last Wednesday and my dealer doesn't have it yet. On Friday, it was still in customs. I guess there are so many cars on the truck and depending where you are going through the customs line, it can take a while. I'm expecting it will reach the dealer today or tomorrow, but now I'm out of town until June 10th so I can't pick it up until at the earliest, June 11th. It's been frustrating to say the least.

Good for you. At the money they offered it would have been theft.

Have you thought about advertising it in the PCA magazine(Panorama)? It seems like good, low mile 993s are often offered there for higher prices. Not sure how well they sell, though.

dealers "start" with their "black book" values, then it's up to the buyer to haggle

"Black book" in this area (NY/NJ/CT) is Galves (www.galves.com). Get yourself a short subscription to their service (or the local equivalent) so you know what the dealer is using.

KBB and NADA are a waste of time and acutely overoptimistic on trade vales most of the time.

I normally get the KBB trade-in and pay about 4% under MSRP on P cars early in the year. I never pay over invoice on anything else.
