I'll only get the tire itself, that will halve the cost. I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling paying over $200 for a simple scissor jack that I can find in the local store for not much over $10 (and I prefer a small hydraulic bottle jack anyway).

It may be that this tire cannot be sold directly by Porsche in some countries due to legalities governing the form and shape of what a spare is supposed to look like and collapsible tires may not have been considered.
However, in that case I am sure you will find third parties offering the same though the back door. I think Suncoast in the U.S. is a likely outlet.

Thanks for the information - I'll check it out; had too many flat tires at inconvenient times with these cars. Tires pick up everything and usually throw it against the rear tires.

Just wondering. Is there an option to put a roof rack on the 991 like on the 996 ?? If so, perhaps some inventive handymen can built a sleek enclosure to carry a tire (and tools) for their long trips. Build it correctly and sales = revenue will come too. And .. how cool would that look !!

I also have a spare from a Boxster that I used to keep in my 997 and I wonder if it would fit my 991S as well.

certain european and middle eastern countries require a spare tire and subsequently it is either a collapsed spare or full size in rear passenger seat.. have seen this several times.

for this reason, a full size tire (front or rear) will fit in back seat without problem.... just get a fold up bag in the trunk for your interiors sake.

i really wish our cars had a tire wrech or at least a place to put one... mine flops around the frunk like no other.

In progress, will have it up soon:

It fits in the rear, quite snug. The seat belt, rear securing strap, and the foam holder hold it in place well.

So the spare fits but where do you put the wheel and tire that went flat. If the spare just fits the flat tire won't!

You carry the roof luggage mount and put it up there. Remember, this is Africa!

I believe Suncoast is saying that the flat will fit in the back seat (photo) and you keep the collapsible spare in the front trunk.

That picture shows the spare in the back seat the standard wheel and tire is bigger than that. I could not put tire and wheel in my back seat of 996 without putting the top down.
The 997 can't be any bigger.

The picture shown is NOT what I have been quoted for by my local Porsche dealer. The spare I am getting goes in the trunk, the flat goes in the rear.

Let me know if you can put standard wheel and tire in back seat maybe you should take a rear wheel off and try it first.

If you look at suncoastparts.com, they already have an official spare tire kit that mounts on the rear passenger side seat. Real ugly and costs over a grand. Looks like a baby seat for a sparetire.

Looking at the description of the kit contents on your link it does look similar to what my dealer quoted (if we ignore the price that is about double the U.S. price - why am I not surprised ?).

I think my dealer may have the wrong end of the stick here - does not matter though - this would work for me. Spare seats are not useful for anything anyway and I'll only need to carry the spare for weekend getaways.

The story is that the tire will fit in the trunk if you do not have a DVD or CD changer bolted to the rear wall of the trunk container.
I guess I'll find out soon enough...
