Hmmmm..... have you got the optional remote entry? If so is it doing this when the key is not in the immediate vicinity of the car (i.e. in your pocket)?

For your next trick put the key in your pocket and wash the car. The trunk will open when you hose down the front bumper.

What does that mean?

This is exactly how I found that out - I was power washing it and it opened.

I don't see why should this happen if I have the key in my pocket - I am not pressing any button - just touching some spot on the bumper.

It means that now I have concerns that if a power washer opens the hood -would it open by itself in heavy raining or some road bump when you drive? It is about safety.

Its called technology. Many new cars are starting to use this. Key has short range and will only open when you are near. If you are inside the car with the key it will not open.

I dunno, I think it's a great feature. So much more handy they having to pull the key out of your pocket when you've got your hands full. Although you will still have to reach in there and detach the safety catch. And like everyone said, it's not going to open up while you're driving.

I am curious what triggers this. Pressure sensor?

Just found this Technical Service Bulletin addition to the car manual:

1. put hand in pocket
2. search around in pocket until you feel the key
3. grab key
4. while holding key carefully remove hand from pocket
5. while assessing any dangerous obstacles that may be close to you, carefully walk to a place where you can put your key, preferably somewhere you will not forget.
6. fire up power washer, make sure that the water supply to the washer is on.
7. wash car.

Caution: If you have the car key in your pocket, do not ride on the front bumper while the car is in motion on bumpy roads or during a heavy rain lest the hood may open.

...the car has a proximity sensor that will unlock the doors if you touch the door handle and will open the trunk if you touch the bumper. It seems that if you are using a hose to wash the car the water stream will trigger the sensor....I guess that if you **** on the bumper with a key in your pocket, the same thing will happen.... that's it. no magic, no defect, just engineering gone wild.

...sorry, I couldn't help myself...

The way the person who presented my car to me in Germany held his hand over the bumper (didn't touch it). It was hit or miss, doing it like that, so I figured it didn't really work well. In the US, dealer held hand over the crest (which I'd seen in one of the online videos on the Porsche site), but that didn't work. The only way mine works is to just touch the bumper. Seems to be consistent thus far.
