locking a 991 order
locking a 991 order
Hi Guys
I got only three weeks left to lock my order.
I made my mind about every thing except wheels and SPASM
I would really appreciate any recomendations
The car i am ordering:
Carrera s
White
Porsche adaptive lights in black( option available for Australia)
911 on the back rather than the whole thing
Black leather interior 14 , porsche crest on headrests, heated seats.
PDK with paddle shifters
Sports chrono plus
Sport exhaust
LED interior light package
steel sun roof
Privacy glass for rear and side windows
folding mirrors
parking sensors
Burmeister
Initially i ordered carrera classic wheels then had second thoughts after seeing the carrera s wheels in flesh so started playing with the Configurator and been seriously considering the platinum silk gloss wheels
Also cant make my mind about SPASM .. Has any one had major issues with scrapping the front spoiler lip? if you get it would ordering the power stearing plus becomes necessary? what about harshness and firmness?
Thanks

Looks good to me, I do like the platinum wheels or the black painted wheels on a white car.
I really gave SPASM a good hard look, but for my order I decided against it for a couple of reasons.
First, yes, every car that I have seen & driven with it has had the front spoiler fairly well scraped up. This on cars with only a few hundred miles. Don't know if this is just the "demo" factor, but it does concern me. The spoiler is easily replaced and doesn't cost a bunch of money though.
The car is firmer with SPASM, but not bad at all. It does give a little more "directness" to the steering.
In the end the non-SPASM car is so close to perfect for my type of driving in my area that along with the scrape and cost factor I just didn't see the need in ordering it.
It has both pros and cons, you just have to weigh them for your tastes.

Great order... Will be somewhat similar to mine (soon, I hope), except I will likely get PDCC also.
I definitely agree with the Sport Exhaust and Burmeister!
As a 997.2 owner, I must say one element that is lacking is "Sound"....both in the stock exhaust and the lousy Bose...so, like you, I definitely would get these two options!

I really like the Carrera Classic Wheel. IMO the spoke design makes the wheel appear larger on the car than the other OEM options, which looks Fantastic.
I would also go with SPASM. It improves performance, which I imagine is the key reason you are purchasing the car. Why not max its potential? Another plus is it also adds an element of safety. There is a great thread on this forum titled, "SM_ATL's 2012 Carrera S Journal.". If you haven't already, check it out. It is Fantastic and has a lot of great information which may help you make a decision on SPASM. At minimum, since you've got 3 weeks, go to your dealer and drive versions with and without. You don't want to make the mistake of wishing you ordered an option that can not be changed after the fact. One more thing. . . although subtle, the front spoiler lip looks SWEET and adds a sporty touch to he front end. Just my 2 cents. Best of Luck with your decision.

My path is similar to yours, having started with a basic 912S (European spec so that includes a few things).
I added SPASM to the list after many reports of "good behaviour" and was finally able to sample it as well.
As far as scraping is concerned, there is little to worry about.
Yes, it is around 10mm lower - that is not much though and only barely noticeable. The springs and roll bars are however much firmer and it can be argued that that can REDUCE the chance of scrapes as there is less "bottoming out" of the chassis as you go over bumps perhaps a little too fast. The extended spoiler lip has little effect on scrapping susceptibility - the extension is minor - but it looks quite good.
The active suspension in "comfort" setting does a miracle job of keeping the firmer suspension pliable if you don't feel like driving a sports car.
In Sport mode the suspension is very noticeably firmer and this has a direct effect on how the steering feels - much, much better (I did not specify the PDCC after much agony and it seems, that was a good thing - at least considering what I want this car for).
I did specify the power steering plus as well, even if that may seem a contradiction - it isn't. It does seem to rob any sort of steering feel except for big stuff at slow speeds - that is true. But that is also fine. You don't need that kind of feed back at parking speeds (at least not MY parking speeds). It does not affect the steering feel at even modest driving speeds...

I would absolutely order SPASM - the lowering looks better and the ride is softer or firmer when needed;
I also added PDCC but would probably not order it again - the effects are minimal IMHO on the already low center of gravity on the 911;
I would change the Steel Sunroof to the glass one; that way you have the option to get more sunlight without opening the roof - the steel sunroof does NOT have a glass cover so its all closed or open...
I would also opt the 20" wheels.
