The waiting...........
The waiting...........
Questions for all those that have or are still waiting on their cars to arrive. How do you do it?? I know some of you have other P cars slo that helps but I do not. We all come here to the forums daily for interaction with others that have the same passion for these cars, but sometimes that just doesn't seem to be enough. I feel like I want to call the dealer every week and ask for an update on the progress of my car but I'm not sure they would even have anything to tell me. What do they know really besides when the order went in, when its scheduled to be completed, and what ship it was put on. So other than those pieces of info what else could they tell me?
Lately I've tried taking the approach of forgetting I've even ordered a car in the hopes thatnwill make a few days go by faster, but its hard when I keep finding myself back here at these forums!!
This isn't my first Porsche so you would think it wouldn't be this hard but I tell ya the waiting is killing me.
So any pearls of wisdom out there from my fellow waiters???

I am no good at it either. I intentionally have bought my past 17 cars from the lot even from out of state, to avoid having to wait for an ordered car. I ordered an M3 CAB back in 03' and had insomnia for the last 2 weeks before it got here.
Over the summer had to decide what to replace my CTT with and the only thing I really want has to be ordered. So I put in my order in Sept, and it still wont be here till end of Feb. So I am sure you are waiting less then me. Lets hope I don't change my mind in the meantime.

Hang in there! I had a gap of 4 months without a pcar and it was tough but the wait was totally worth it in the end. DUring that 4months, I read every thread on this and another forum, watched every single 991 video on youtube and read every single article on the 991. Your wait should not be too long as the factory seems to have cleared all their wait lists and supply issues.
I am waiting for my 991S Cab as well. Ordered in Oct and was recently told it was at port awaiting shipment! So I just wait it out and drive my 997 as much as I can as its my DD. I should get it sometime in Jan. but it would be nice to get better info from Porsche so I know more like text alerts or emails. That would make it a Bit easier! Anyway I while away my time on this site looking at cars and responding to posts instead of putting 2K mile on my new 991 to break it in already. It's like the next gen iPhone. You hear about it months in advance and wait for it. I guest it's like the old days when you would have to order a car at the dealer and wait. My Mom did that with all her Cadi's so we learn a little about patience and enjoy the anticipation!
When everything you hear or read reminds you of your car patience is pretty hard to come by!! The one good thing about where we live is I almost never see a Porsche in my area, so that helps. If I had to see them all day I'd really have problems!
I'm with you on the dealer communication part. You would think a factory as advanced as Porsches would be able to send you texts or even pics of your car along the line. Heck they know which one belongs to you since it's a custom order. I'd LOVE to see pics of it being assembled. That alone woe help make the wait bearable. One of you guys going over there for factory delivery need to mention that to them while your there!

..changed order sep12 to 4s ! completes just before Xmas, 10th Jan 13 delivery
The more times you order a car the easier it gets. In the end you get the car that you want, and it will be worth the wait. Read, read, and read some more to pass the time. The worst part of waiting is when the car is built and it sits somewhere. Waiting for transportation to the exit port, waiting for a ship at the exit port, waiting at the entry port for transportation to your dealer, and waiting at your dealer for you to pick up are the worst parts of the wait.
I've been waiting for about 3 months. My car will be built next week, so I guestimate I will take delivery in about 3 - 4 weeks. I got by with watching youtube. But I have seen all the movies several times by now, so no fix there anymore
Reading rennlist and 6speed every day too, but does that help, or does it make things worse ?
So the wait keeps getting tougher and tougher. At first I still had my previous P to see, touch and drive, but that is now sold. Fortunately the weather has not been very good lately, that kinda helps to control the itch. But on those sunny days, when you are feeling happy and aching to drive the new one, man that sucks. Furthermore, I've been seeing new 991 for the first time in the wild since last week. That doesn't really help either.
The waiting game is not a fun one ...
... it makes you channel your energy to obsess over relatively insignificant questions like, should I have the dealer prep my car for delivery, or should I call in a specilized detailer to do the prepping so it will be top notch at delivery time

That is true. However getting to that first 30 minutes is a type of torture that I don't want to have to relive any time soon. I'd sure like to order another car at some point and pick it up in Germany though, so I may be back for more misery
