porsche 991 problem

Same issue here, appears to be normal, still sounds and feels horrible. Embarrassing when you have a passenger. Will change to Michellins if the consensus is that they are less likely to have a similar issue.

High performance tires (read: SOFT and WIDE tires with small, stiff sidewalls) are not designed to be used in cold weather. The rubber compounds get very hard and non-compliant. The driving experience has been described as "greasy", kind of like that when the roads have just a light coating of moisture on them. When the rubber gets cold and hard and you input very high steering angles the tire is not compliant enough to flex, it "hops" and that make both the ugly noise and provides quite a bit of feedback through the steering wheel.
Put snow/winter tires on the car and this goes away.

So glad you posted that little video.... mine sound that exact same way. I even posted 'Sounds like my front end is falling out' on this site. It really is embarrassing when you take someone out in your new Porsche and it sounds and feels like an old jalopy (at least for the first 10 feet). One would think that the world renowned engineers at Porsche could overcome this problem.

This is not a design flaw but as mentioned above owners using the wrong tires in cold weather. In Germany the use of proper winter tires is mandatory. The high performance tires on our cars are not designed nor intended to be used at approx. 40'F and below.
