I think Porsche is looking more for an exotic look. We know the 911 shape is beautiful and the turbo model is fast and performs great but sitting next to a Ferrari it just doesn't compete in the looks dept. Not to me. Not to many people.
I also think the 911 interior is less upscale than Ferrari and other exotics.

If this new car brings the quality interior with the exotic look while keeping the performance at high Porsche level, it'll be a Ferrai fighter for sure.

Agreed. Exotic goes beyond speed and HP. It is the entire experience. We conceived brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini etc as exotic car because of its limited production per year, one to two dealer per city(none in most) etc etc. Even if Porsche pull off an exotic look, it is still an interesting brand value challenge because it is the same dealership that sell the $50K Boxster. Nothing against boxster, so don't shoot me. This is not to say they wouldn't sell every 918 or 960.

I don't see the interior is less upscale than a Ferrari. It is different in term of material and build quality. I think 991 interior is very good. But what are we comparing that to? 458 at 3 times the price? . One is perfectly stitch, the other has a more hand made look, which is not necessary better.I personally prefer 991 interior over 458. Take Aston Martin, it has one of the most beautiful interior, all leather and aluminum. But quality control is not consistence.

There is no doubt 911 will still be that classic shape when celebrating its 100 years anniversary. But you are right, sitting next to a 458, it can be "ordinary" in term of design.

This car's expected price is ridiculous if and when it is eventually launched. I am not going to hold my breath till 2017. The price is in the F12 range. But before they go there where is the super car that is supposed to compete in the 458 price range?

This is exactly my concern.

I think it will be a huge mistake to price it with the F12....sales will be minimal.

But if they price it "just under" a 458 AND give it supercar looks (CGT) along with the excellent build quality that we have known to love from Porsche, an incredible exhaust note (this is a must IMO), MUCH better sound system than any F car (burmester) and lower maintenance costs....well....then, there will be many in line to get one.

At that price, it comes down to brand preference. There is a sound system that comes with Ferrari? . 2012 F-cars comes with 7 years free service, I doubt Porsche plan to offer that with the 960.

Does this worry anyone else: "The 960 is expected to be the first vehicle to utilize the Porsche-developed MSB-M architecture, which will to underpin all of VW Group's mid- and rear-engined sports cars from the successor to the Lamborghini Aventador to Porsche's next 911."?

One of the great things about the current 911 is that it's its own car. US automakers have totally made a mockery between their 'brands' by sharing too much ... I mean, one way to look at it is that you'll get an Aventador architecture on the 911, but the other way to look at it is how the shared platforms between Chevy / Buick / Cadillac / Olds / Pontiac / ... destroyed real differences and just turned the 'brands' into cars with slightly different body panels.

(OK, over on automobilemag, they mentions the MSB-H which apparently will be exclusive to the 911, so maybe the 911 stays out for at least one more round?)

I don't know, could be good technology-wise, but too much shared stuff is a bit frightening. (Or it will make our current "true" Porsche 911's more valuable over time? )
