I checked in the manual and it says the two power outlets only have power for 30 mins after the ignition is switched off. So, I'm guessing this means charging via either of these won't work.

FYI - these two outputs have a max load of 20 amps.

Looks like you will need to do a direct hook-up to the battery then.

Yep, that is exactly why I got it. I don't smoke but knew I wanted the extra plug in, just in case . . .

I am going to have to look in the manual and check with the dealer. I have plugged in the Porsche (CTEC) charger several times and had it go from indicating "charging" to indicating "charged" overnight. I have not tried charging it for more than overnight though, so maybe it was all topped off in 30 minutes!

just buy the non porsche charger and do a direct hook up. no big deal. you can still close the trunk even with the wires attached to the battery the cables are small enough that they dont get pinched much.

The CTEC is a tender, not a charger, so it's not supposed to full charge the battery, but let the battery drain and then charge as it would with normal cycles from driving it with the alternator.

In your case, don't you have to leave the hood up or open a crack? Or do you close the hood on the wire?
Yes, you are correct. I leave the hood down and latched, but not fully closed.

I have the Porsche version/named CTek and plug into the lighter socket on my 996 TT Cab. I specifically ordered the smokers package to get that plug. I have a 991S Cab coming around the end of the month and already bought another one for that car (I'm keeping the TT). Both cars are "Garage Queens/Toys". I find I can close the passenger door with the cord over the window with no issue. Or I just lower the rear window 1/4".

Just remember that it is plugged in before you take off driving. I used to run it in from the passenger side, now I do the driver side. Don't ask me how I figured this out...

Good advice, that sounds like something I would do.

I drape the power cord over and around the steering wheel so I don't back out and try and drag the whole garage with me.
