Basically called it a "one trick pony" (fast). I can see no reason to go backwards.
Keep in mind that when someone mentions R8 , Gtr . Zr1 , etc .. they either turn to Porsche Gt3 /Gt2/ or Turbo models to compare . Generally the 997S and 991S cars are noticed but not the one out there beating them .
As for the GtR .. make no mistake .. it is a very fast 100K car.

It's an indication of how fast they depreciated .Look at the carfax for recall info . Originally Posted by srubin

Sometimes the first cars have a few quirks . The 12 model year for the 991 was brief . That is one of my complaints . why didn't they release it as a 13 model like they have chosen to do with the new cayman (its released as a 14 model and its only May) .

I agree with this !! I remember how many 997 owners pounded the pavement about shelling out 130K or so for a 997 GtS in late 2011 and now they sell for as much as a Cayman S used. Originally Posted by chuckbdc

That's not to in any way criticize either the Gts or Cayman car .. it's merely to point at market pricing and how a person can "want a car" and end up paying a lot more than he hoped .
That's my point .because i really like the 991S but at these price levels I do not feel its a negative thing to at least evaluate the downside risk with cost and compare it to ANY other car in its price range (including other Porsches).
I had the chance to buy a 12 991s in the 80s. Compared it to the turbo and there was no comparison in performance. Below 5k rpm, the 991 felt downright slow. Yes, it was more refined and the 991s was a "stripper", but a turbo is just an incredible car. Many people told me, once you get bitten by the turbo bug, you aren't going back! I'll be waiting until the '10s become affordable!

All depends on what your ideal is for a sports car. If rapid acceleration is paramount to you, than the turbo is a great choice. I've owned enough of them to know why Chris Harris was critical. Got much more driving pleasure from my 997.2 C2S then any of the 996 or 997 turbos I owned (but I still miss my 993 turbo). I fully expect that Porsche will address some of the "turbo driver experience" concerns withe upcoming 991 turbo. Meanwhile, modifying your turbo will make it a far more engaging car - you'll see!

It's more that just acceleration . It's how the car accelerates .. like a sledgehammer !! The first time I drove a Turbo I felt like I was being hurled out of a cannon . In fact even visually it felt like the road was being pulled out from under me . To top that all off modifying a Turbo adds an even more face smearing jolt . Originally Posted by Alan

Even Porsche touts the turbo with a huge price disparity .. and NOW they have become affordable !! That's why pricing is so crucial .
As for comfort and refinement .. I already have a Cayenne .When I buy a 911 I want performance . The 991s is a great all around street car but at 127K specd the way I'd want it .. this is the first time since the 993 that i have refrained from buying into the newest model line.
The upcoming Turbo S does look awesome !! I am waiting.
