991 Base Carrera VS 981 Cayman S

Different cars are designed with great deal of deliberation aiming at different driver segments. As a user, it is useful to know what my needs and preferences are. I am fortunate to have a spouse who also enjoys driving to permit four vehicles: Smartfortwo for shopping; a Acura RDX for going over the mountain pass (Rt. 80 Reno-SF in winter); Audi A8L for long road trips; and 2014 base Cayman for fun (Reno to Virginia City - look it up on google map). Still I have always had in mind "the car I would drive if I could only drive one" in all 7 decades since getting my license. Right now, it would be a MB E class.

^ I had a Smart. They are a great car for their intended purpose. I wish I kept it, but a friend needed it more than me.
You are also right about the E63, it does everything so well. Thats a problem, because mine keeps me from driving the 991 as often as I should.
The Cayman is also amazing considering it has almost everything a 911 has, for such a much better price. If the Cayman S had a 911 S engine it would easily be the faster car.
I think they should let the Cayman be the best NA RWD Porsche, since the 911 has the AWD Turbo variants to keep it at the top of the food chain.
Dosen't a Cayman GT3 seem like it would satisfy the track day segment better?
As much as I love the 911 GT3, it just seems a shame to strip down such a fine GT car when you could have it all by just putting a GT3 drivetrain in a fully equipped Carrera or stepping up to a Turbo or better yet a Turbo 2.
The Cayman is better suited to carry the stripped down track animal torch.

I agree.
I second that - I keep looking at the Cayman S over the summer but keep wishing for the 911. Ended up ordering a 991S
If the Cayman had the 911 engine (maybe an AWD trim - yes, I know this would add weight, just saying - an option), and the 911 taillights, it would be the coolest car on the planet.
Hear Hear! I'm glad you said that. I think in cruising around town the Base with PASM and PDK and a few other abbreviations is heaven on earth...

Well someone at Porsche must have heard you

Welcome the GT4
Now I wonder what all the 911 fan boys are sayin, now about the Caymans ??

Best regards
