I'm keeping the C2S. No turbo or GT3 for me.

Yes, you read right.
I'm keeping my C2S.
My appetite for GT3 and Turbo (S) has entirely vanished.

You may ask why.

Well, I don't know how Porsche's pricing works but I nearly soiled myself when I became aware of their prices for the new offererings locally.
Expressed in terms of the USD for simplicity it works out to:

GT3: $240000
Turbo S: $265000

For comparison, C2S: 120000

Prices before options, including local sales tax (14%).

I have just noticed that I am very happy with the C2S and have no desire to get anything else...

The GT3 seems to be ridiculously priced indeed. Very strange. The C2 and Turbo S seem to be even "cheap" compared to Swiss prices.

For comparisation the swiss base prices (incl. 8% VAT) converted in USD
Carrera S: $149,000
Carrera 4S: $158,000
GT3: $200,000
Turbo: $236,000
Turbo S: $285,000

These prices are all rediculous of course when you compare them to U.S. Prices....

No they aren't

In fact, a lot cars are being bought in Germany and imported in Switzerland by the owners themselves. I thought of doing that too, but while it save you some money, it doesn't make that amount of difference. There is a kind of eco-tax on the cars here in Switzerland and you have to pay that of course, even when you buy a car in Germany. That tax is already in the swiss prices.
German prices are the cheapest in western Europe. Go look at the Dutch Porsche website and download the PDF pricelist. It will make you feel good. Very good!
I think that's the reason why they don't have prices in the configurator in Holland. People would get heart-attacks, just looking at them

Price differences notwithstanding, I honestly don't see the need to have so much potential performance go unrealized almost all the time in the kind of driving I'll be doing in my C2S. As a daily driver around town, the C2S will rarely get to stretch its legs much as it is. It'd be like using a thoroughbred racehorse to canter to the market or to dinner in a Turbo or GT3.

The GT3's base price is only US$131K in the States.

You are right about that. Few people use the potential of those cars to their limit, even if it is a C2S or C4S or whatever.... But it also has to do with the different characters a Turbo or a GT3 has. Espacially a 911 Turbo has a completely differrent character in terms how the power builds up and I can imagine that there are lots of potential buyers that want that character in a car. Personally I never liked the Turbo, not even the 991 Turbo but that's a matter of personal taste... The GT3 is a car that I would like to have, but never as a daily driver. Only as a weekend toy to have some fun at a track or an inspiring road. That said... I think a C2S or C4S can give you 95% of the fun a GT3 gives.
And then there is of course the looks and the "status" a car has. I wouldn't want to make dinner for all the people that buy a Turbo just to impress the neighbours
I just want a car that I like and makes me feel good. I don't give a s**t what other people think about it. I will never judge people on their cars, except when they drive a prius

Having come out of a 997.2 GT3 and into a 991 C2S Cab last summer, I was naturally interested in the GT3 when it became available. The sticker shock hit me as well - I wasn't expecting to see $150K U.S. price for a reasonably equipped car; I wouldn't buy a GT3 without ceramic brakes and some leather, but I think I'll stay in the 991 Cab for a while longer. The 30% plus depreciation hit in the first year is just too much to swallow.

Can't believe the prices in South Africa or Switzerland.

Wow! I thought we had it bad in Canada. The pricing disparity just does not make sense between the c2S and the GT3. 2 Carrera S's for the price of 1 Gt3? In what world does that make sense unless there is crazy markup due to limited allocations

I could not disagree more with this post (for my driving habits). I'd rather have that thoroughbred ready to go at ANY moment's notice. I cannot count how many times my normal drive was affected by a situation that was easily remedied by 600HP, AWD, and DCT.

I'd suggest the Turbo (with AWD) can stretch its legs FAR more often than any RWD car in various conditions.

However, my preference doesn't equal everyone's. For some, the difference isn't worth it. For me, it is.
