It's all about marketing and charging what the market will bear, and not about what the product actually cost to develop and build.
I have a friend that works with a large consulting firm that provides consulting services to all types of companies on pricing of their products. My friend was actually involved with advising Porsche on pricing of Cayman when it was first introduced. He told me that his company's research and focus group meetings with potential customers indicated that Porsche could charge more for the Cayman than the Boxster if Porsche could get 10 more HP out of the Cayman over the Boxster. Porsche was reluctant to try to price it above the Boxster since we all know that most manufacturers charge more for the drop top version of a car. Porsche was convinced and needless to say, happy they did. My friend said the Cayman was/is a huge money maker for Porsche. Obviously, the 911 is also, probably even more so.
He also told me that one of the biggest profit makers for Porsche is the PCCB brakes. No doubt they are a good product, but he said the profit on those is huge for Porsche. PDK is also a big profit maker for them, especially when coupled with Sport Chrono.

How much cash am I pocketing in my equation? Zippy, nada, zilch. If you want to use your equation, I would walk into the Porsche dealership, put $0.25 in the gumball machine and put $181,999.75 in my pocket because I'd never in a million years pay $182K for ANY 911 variant
