I Had a Big Scare

I noticed what appeared to be a very deep scratch on the roof of my car running parallel to the rear window, about an inch away and running about 9" long. I tried rubbing it with my finger and it felt like it was fresh and looked like it went down to the metal. It looked like someone took a straight edge and used a box cutter because it was so precisely straight and even with the rear window.

That got me wondering if it was indeed a scratch, after all. My hunch was right: it came off using bug & tar remover. It was glue residue from the protective vinyl film they use when shipping the car new from the factory which blackened with dirt. It was apparently overlooked when the dealer prepped the car and as it accumulated dirt became visible and palpable. Phew! What a relief!

I'm glad it wasn't a scratch. I know that moment too well when checking your car over. I'm getting a little better about this and my OCD, so I'm trying very hard to ignore the rock chips that gathered already around my bumper.

Glad to hear. I had similar experience after picking up my car. Really, you'd expect more care and detail when picking up a $110K plus car, no?

Exact thing happened to me along the a pillar of my car. The dealer detailers need to pay better attention.

onedae is infamous around these parts
That is a good example of why you need to check your car carefully when you pick it up from the dealer. Here's another - I special ordered my 991S and my dealer called me when it arrived. Naturally I was all excited so I went and looked at it before it was prepped and cleaned - it was dirty but everything looked great. The next day I went to take delivery and noticed that the drivers seat had a MAJOR abrasion in the side bolster - obviously from a sloppy detailer who must have gotten into the car with something on their pants. The dealer took care of it and everything ended up fine but it could have been a problem if I had not seen it when I picked up the car. Be Careful!!

I too had this "scratch" - left over protective stripe (less than 1 mm wide) on the roof. Frankly, once i realized what it was I was happy that the detail guy at the dealer never found it lest he buff the cr*p out of the car. I removed it with a very mild polish.

Don't we all suffer from OCD?? Since I picked up my special ordered car there's this round suction cup sort of mark on the rear glass that's only visible at certain angle and in certain light conditions...it's been driving me nuts!!

Op/ I also has this "scratch" but after thorough bonding via detailing of my baby...it's almost gone.
