How come some 2012 has 997 interior?

My understanding is that 2012 is 991 but how come some 2012 cars has 997 interior?

991's came out.
The 2012 991's became known as the "new" 911

I think you may have misunderstood what the previous poster meant:
there were 2 completely different 911's released during the 2012 model year.
1) 2012 997 911. Last of the 997 models
2) 2012.5 991 911 First of the 991 models released about 6/2012
of course the new 991 911's would be more desirable if you prefer the newer body style and interior. However there's nothing wrong with the last of the 997's. Its still an incredible vehicle with all the intrinsic merits of a Porsche 911.

For people don't know the difference between 997 and 991, they just go out and buy a 2012 Carrera S and saw this? It could be bad if they picked 2012 997.
At least turbo is uniform with just one interior for the year.
I can't understand why Porsche would have two different types of interior for 2012 C2, C4, C2S, cab etc.
Shouldn't Porsche wait til 2013 for the 991 interior?

Look close, those 2012 997 (with 997 interior) have a 997 exterior, engine, suspension, brakes.... too.
Even 2013 was not all 991.
The 2013 Turbo was a 997.
Interestingly, I think I liked the 997 interior better, as I'm not a fan of the high center console.
I could have been real happy with a 2012 GTS also.

I could never ever believe there were people that couldn't see the difference (when magazines wrote not much changed visually, I honestly thought they lost their marbles) as to me the 991 is soooooooo different to the 997. But this thread proves me wrong :-)

Even taking into account that not all 911 buyers are "enthusiasts" and not be as informed as most here, there's the "more money than brains" syndrome at work here. IMO, buyers who don't/didn't see the difference between the 997 and 991 are also most likely newcomers to the model and will learn from their oooops moment.
To the OP - for the record NO 2012 991 was supplied with a 2012 997 interior or body!
Here's are some other questions or comments that the OP and other buyer in his dimension may think about... Folks feel free to add.

"What's the difference between a 911 and 991?"
"I ordered a Carrera and the dealer sold me a 911!"

"The dealer told me that Porsche charges for many additional options. Because I ordered the base 991 and not the 991 4, they say I have to pay extra for the additional 2 wheels that a car requires!!
"Anyway, you get my point
+1

Maybe I should stated clearly when I started this thread.
Let's say a buyer goes into a dealer for a CPO 2012 C2S. At the time only a few 2012.1 (997) are at the showrooms in nearby two dealers. He buys it then later realize he could have gotten 2012.5 991 instead. Imagine what he would feel.
I have to say having 2 body styles in one model year is unusual. What Porsche is doing is not norm. Many of us know it but we can't expect every buyer to browse 6speed daily
I wounder if the salesperson will mention "by the way there is a newer body style for 2012 as well"??
