Leaving in a few hours to go get my 991!
Wifey and I are flying one way to go pick up our Carrera S! We are very excited. Spending the night and then driving home, about a 12+ hour trip! I should be able to get a 'feel' and 'learn' the car on the drive home!
So excited! I will post up some pics when we get back!

If you have the time be sure to visit the Barber track (even if it's just to see it) and the motorcycle and car museum at the track. It is a stunning place and not to be missed.
For food the Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega Restaurant, and Chez Fon Fon all owned by Frank Stitt are fabulous.
Enjoy!

Consider adding a day or two to your trip and drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains before going back to FL. Fall colors are in full bloom right now. In Birmingham you are quite close to the Tail of the Dragon and other great drives.
Enjoy your new PCAR.....
!
Thanks everyone! We got back in early this morning! Got in around 2am...then had to give it a quick bath to wash the bugs off of it. If any or my neighbors where up, they must think, well, they already know, I am crazy! 12+ hour run back from Birmingham. LOVING the car so far! It is awesome.
A few comments from me about it:
Very comfortable cruiser/touring car. Build quality is top notch. I smell like leather when I get out! LOL! The car handles the road well. Good feedback, a little road noise from the tires, but nothing to complain about. The car has good power. LOVE the sounds it makes, especially with the sport exhaust open! HAHA!!
(a little on my car background: always had high horsepower/muscle cars: 1970 Nova, 1966 Chevy II-700+HP, C6 ZO6 Corvette-680 HP, and I just recently sold my almost 1000 HP twin turbo'd Shelby GT500 Mustang. Soooooo: I am almost ruined/spoiled when it comes to HP and speed/acceleration.)
Now, however, I don't know if it is the lightweight nature of the 911, the way the power is delivered, or the PDK, but this car actually feels quick to me! Not blindingly fast, but quick and I am very satisfied with this area.
We put about 800 +/- miles on it during our road journey! Wifey said she loved the seats and was very comfortable. I wish it had a little more storage space/areas inside, but the glove box takes all my stuff like a champ! The brakes seem fantastic! They will stop this car! NOW!
I am now going to be headed out to detail her up to my standards!

Congratulations !! Interesting comment regarding the power of the car compared to your previous high HP/torque cars.
I remember a recent thread where someone got a Carrera S and was disappointed in the power when compared to their prior GTR. When I test drove one, "this car isn't fast enough" was certainly not something that came to mind
. I'm still waiting on mine. Should be loaded on a ship any day now. Enjoy your new baby!

Beautiful car, and sounds like you had an awesome time on your inaugural road trip. I totally agree with your observations about the car. It's really a comfortable highway cruiser and total beast in a single package. I just crossed the 4,000 mile mark and think the car is absolutely brilliant.
Thanks all! I'm in the process of my two day detail fest! Foam gun, wash, wheels, exhaust tips, Iron-X complete vehicle, clay, compound/polish, wax, windows, tire dressing, then the interior!
I'll keep ya posted...
