The only thing I said was that I would call all my family from Italy to come and convince him...
Just lied about the fact that they all come from Sicily though... LOL!
Just kidding of course... If that would work I would do it over and over again!

Hahaha
You describe exactly why I still haven't ordered a 991 yet... It just doesn't add anything to that particular nice experience you describe
If it's not a daily driver, a Boxster is just as good, if not even better than a 911. The only thing it lacks is that it isn't a 911, but is that important??? I don't know....

If I still wanted a roadster I would not hesitate to get a Boxter S. Mine was an interlude in a line of 911s that dated to 1974. I thought I would never come back. Then I drove a 991 the day they launched them here. Two weeks later I was back. For me, the 991 is by far and in so many dimensions the best 911 to date. It works as a DD, as a long range tourer, and as a sports car on road and track. The "no torque" argument is just silly given quarter mile times in the high 11s and the abilities of PDK to keep the engine on the boil. Sure it it not a turbo, but an S is so totally more powerful than a Boxter that it is a wholly different experience. Both the 981 and 991 platforms are a huge step forward in real performance (without the stability compromises that need for "involvement"). Anyone into Porsches should not miss the 991 experience.

Ok so here's something very ineteresting.
I checked what the 8 folks* who voted so far "NO" (meaning they want this debate continued) drive.
ALL of them drive a MANUAL Porsche!
Some are not even 991's. Deduce what you want from the finding.
So here's my advice to all who want advice about PDK vs Manual.... Don't ask anyone and go test it for yourself!
*dhill911, FullThrottle64, JohnM, LPB987S, m5_2010, nicoli, Porschejeff, SFZGT3
Fellas my flame suit is on but I'm just stating what I found. I also know that you'll claim you tested the new pdk and preferred manual and hence your choice etc. But why must you want to keep bashing away on this topic? If it's about size... The rest of us won't tell!!!

PDK isn't there yet - close, but not yet. For someone who really isn't skilled with shifting, or who will spend most of their time in traffic, it's probably the better choice, but it still has some minor flaws.
I would love to get some time with the PDK-S...

I did buy a BMW M550d Touring as my businesscar, but that car turned out to be a PITA and the dealer was even worse (first and probably last BMW ever for me).
To make a long story short... After a lot of argueing and threatening, I have my SQ5 back that I traded in for that BMW and I'm thinking about getting an Audi A6 Avant as my business car/daily driver. It's available with the same 3.0 TDI biTurbo diesel engine as the SQ5 and it's very comfortable and not one of my customers can feel offended by that car (which could have been a problem with a 911). It's stealthy (boring) but I quite like that to be honest. I always feel at home in an Audi for some unknown reason....

I did test PDK in multiple new cars before buying a manual 997 C2S. I also have a lot of seat time with pure race transmissions - both sequentials and H-patterns.

FYI, a few years ago I picked up a 997.2 C4S with pdk. This was when Porsche first introduced pdk. All my previous 911's were manuals and I think it was the novelty factor of the PDK that had my buy in. It very soon wore off and I ended up really disliking it and I sold the car in a couple of months and went to a 997.2 GT3. I thought I would never again get a 911 with pdk..... I was wrong! The PDK in the 991 is so much better and whether it's due to better engineering or software, the difference with its predecessor is like night and day. After living with it for over a year I remain super happy with it and look forward to getting my GT3 with it.

I was reminded of this thread when I read an email from one of my old friends - my undergraduate philosophy professor. He was bemoaning the fact of improvements to photo processing. He commented that one no longer has to dodge and burn in images when processing exposures on an enlarger. He attached some incredible landscape photos to that email that were automatically enhanced by photo software. I responded to his email saying that he can now concentrate on taking the photo and the burden of improving it post exposure has been removed
This may be analogous to the PDK manual debate. Or not.

I had that in mind at first, but I think I would need to wait at least a year or maybe 2 before I can order a Macan. Porsche doesn't have all the options available yet and I don't want a car that can't be specced the way I want it to. Besides that I am still hoping they will come with a more powerful diesel (like the SQ5).
I also don't know if I like the design as much as I hoped I would. I loved it when I saw it in person last week at the L.A. Auto show, but the more I see it, the less I like it... Which is strange for a Porsche, because mostly it's the other way around....
I think the next gen Q5 is more a car I like designwise, so in the meantime I'm going for a nice and comfy A6 Avant BiTDI with 313hp, with massage seats, a nicer interior, a way better multimedia system, a very nice Bang & Olufsen audio system and all the other stuff Porsche doesn't even offer, for a pricetag which is 15000 swiss francs cheaper than a Macan Turbo I specced. Ouch Porsche!

How arrogant and insulting! I've been driving a manual since 1963 and am very skilled and proficient but decided to buy the PDK after reading so much about how brilliant it is. It is everything I read and more. I don't regret making the choice. And, after driving 7-speed manual-equipped 991S's as well as PDK-equipped 991S's on the track a few weeks ago, I am even more sold on the PDK.
PDK and Manual both are great and also nice to drive, but the PDK just has something extra, a manual never can offer...

Sorry, but in comparison to REAL competition transmissions, the PDK ain't so great - and not worth the price Porsche is charging for it. It's certainly better than any other production auto I've gotten to drive, but it's still not there yet.
Lets face it - the vast majority of Porsche buyers aren't actually competing in their cars, so that extra 0.2 sec of 0-60 time is only for bragging rights when racing on a barstool (or Internet forum). You may call it "arrogant", but I find the "PDK rules uber alles" posts from people who have never actually run a car anywhere near its limits amusing at best.

How much wheel-to-wheel racing have you done? How many track records do you hold? Have you ever driven a true racing sequential? Sorry, but in comparison to REAL competition transmissions, the PDK ain't so great - and not worth the price Porsche is charging for it. 90% of Porsche's customers don't race and rarely drive on a track.
Of course is the PDK is not great compared to REAL competition transmissions when you are driving 9 or 10/10th. No transmission in a road car will ever be that good. You are comparing apples and oranges. A race transmission doesn't last very long compared to a PDK or a old fashioned manual, so in that aspect, a race transmission is crap.

Interesting that people that have voted in the poll on this thread are 4-1 saying that there has been enough debate on the manual vs PDK debate, yet we are on page 4, almost 5, of another PDK vs manual debate.

Except I'm guessing it isn't 90% that don't race but 99%... At least out of the forum..
And I question the authenticity of many of the claimed racing experts as I suspect those as acclaimed as they say they are would, have little interest in spending time convincing others of their prowess... On the internet no one knows you are a dog...

It's a debate without an end. Both transmissions are equally good and people just have different preferences. I prefer a PDK, but I also like a manual.
But when people start comparing them to race transmissions, I can't help start questioning human intelligence... Just saying....
