between my 997.1, my 997.2S, and now this 991S, I'd say this is a bit more issue-free than the other two...just by a touch. I haven't had really anything other than a rattly front speaker that is honestly livable. What I don't like are engine rattles, rear window clip rattles, and more serious issues.

arrogant and presumptuous on your part however because you assume a lot.. Not my first Porsche, and I'owned m5s and driven amg I just find the BMW, Mercedes . and others very temporal.. They are rarely revered other than when new.. They don't have any soul that lasts other than the guy who owned one..

That said I find the panameras an attractive car just in the way I find an Audi attractive but it doesn't capture my imagination in any way because it is based on. Demographics and built on the back of another car. Just like a sitcom spin off..
Comparing the Panamera to a minivan is nonsensical. It's similar to comparing a 911 to a Beetle. To say a 911 purist would prefer the Panamera doesn't exist is arrogant in a big way since you are speaking for a big cross section of tastes and levels of fanaticism. I have 911s and also a Panamera and enjoy it for what it is, luckily Porsche designed it to outperform most minivans. I'm glad to hear M5 and AMG are highlights of you're driving resume. Laughable.

6,000 miles and 10 months and no issues that required a warranty claim. Had one update to PDK and that's it.

Thanks for your kind words... there was no assumption you'd never driven or owned a Porsche, it does not say so anywhere in the post. You are therefore likely the one making the assumption that I assume you have never driven one.... The text recommends you drive a GTS or TT... Keep an open mind. it's just a toy/car.

He's right it's not a 911 but boy it's good. Wow!

At the time I read "with a 911 inbound it's easy to say..." I did indeed presume myself... and it sounded rather arrogant to me.. And as I re-read it I'm still not sure what you point was.. But I do apologize for my tone.. I think I was having a bad day anyway..

Thing is I wasn't really trying to get into a debate over it one vs the other.. just expressing my opinion as a purist..

And you are right... it is just a car/toy.. I need to remember that

As I mentioned clearly just my opinion which I don't expect anyone else to share and I'm sure you have yours.

Have a nice day...

The funny thing is that some small problem, like a loose intake or something else, could be really serious sounding. Once they find the bolt, the car is like new.

When I went to pick up my E92M3, the sales manager actually said that he "smelled burnt-clutch" odor. He refused to give me the car until they found out what was wrong. It turned out that "back at the Port", they had the clutch freeze and it burnt out. (Or someone did some doughnuts! LOL!)
Anyway, I get the car and it has an INSANE rattle in the dash. There was also a loud "clunk" in the rear that sounded like the exhaust and diff was falling off. I videoed it, and put it on a message board. A BMWNA rep who watches the Boards, contacted me and said to bring it to the dealer ASAP!
When they got it, it turned out that when they fixed the clutch, they neglected to re-tighten the entire intake manifold. It was banging against the firewall. They also did not re-install several exhaust parts and the hangers were finger-tight. There were a hundred other little things wrong too! Anyway, the dealer was like, "give us 2 days, and you will be super-happy".
Yep, 2 days later, car is like-new. Not a single problem in the 18 months since. But, you could not have convinced me that all would be fixed..ever.
Sorry for the long story, but the gist of it is, "it could be just a few bolts or a clip"
All they have to do is find it!
JohnM,

You nailed it. I needed the Porsche Field Tech's help and the fixes were minor stuff to resolve. Rear end noise was a rock caught in one of the suspension arms. Dealer replaced a strut and then realized it didn't fix the issue. Then they found the rock that was burnished down from rubbing against the suspension. Took it out and bingo... no more sound.

The other noise I had was an odd whistling when you came into gear. It was a defective oil/air separator. Porsche had other reports of this that the Field Tech knew about.

Took about two weeks in the shop this time but it was worth the wait. Riding home gave me that new car feeling again. What a great car!!!

Thanks again,

Zelig

Great to hear your vehicle is back on top again!!
I had rattle once that was an acorn rolling around the rear window lip. When I found it I laughed like hell!
I was at the dealer yesterday to meet the porsche tech and chat for a while. He seems pretty cool. He had a grey 991S that he was working on. Looked very nice.
My old salesman is gone, so I met the new guy (Rich Karas)..seemed pretty cool. Can't wait to order my car and get that new car feeling too!!
