So I priced out a Jag F-Type R coupe...
Yes.
If Nissan would give it a nice interior, improve the looks to something that one could call "nice" and give it normal maintenance schedules - then, yes - then nothing would touch it. I could even live with calling it a "Nissan".
I much prefer the F types V6 engine BTW (The 380 Hp "S") - it might be a bit slower but is a much better and more balanced car to drive. I quite like it...

Good point Rainier, and very consistent with my experience and the feedback of other friends who have driven the car (Jag held a test drive day a couple of month ago here). The bigger engine/higher hp car is not necessarily the nicer to drive.
Porsche 911= 50 years of development
F-Type= ?? months of development

They may be evenly matched on paper but I expect the F Type R to be much faster than a 991S in real life.
Carlos Lago in his tests for Motortrend got 0-60 in 3.4s and a quarter mile of 11.6s. Show me a source where the 991 Carrera S delivers those numbers? With the 991S you're looking at mid 12s on the quarter mile which is a big difference.

Directly from Road and track:
We recorded a wicked 3.5-second blast to 60 mph and a quarter mile of 11.8 sec.—numbers that equal or better the performance of the 997-based GT3 RS 4.0!

The depreciation is an interesting one. The F Type has so far been holding value very well - it is the fastest moving car in US dealers inventories in 2013. However it's new - will be interesting to see how this sustains. The history of Jags other cars suggests it won't sustain.

It does. A V6S F-type coupe is a perfectly respectable and pleasant GT daily driver. I'd still take my 991S over it, but if I had a few cars in my stable, it could be one of them. My wife would like it better than the porsche.
The V6S is the "sweet spot" in the range, much like the C2S is the "sweet spot" in the 911 range.
The F-type cab is not bad, it is nicely done, looks good, drives good and sounds very good. Not a bad price in in my opinion either (for what you get). I could very definitely see one of those in my garage (I'll take it in white, thanks...).
The V8 is not a bad engine - it is just that you can't use it properly in the F-type. As you say Serge - there is such a thing as "too much" and it certainly applies here. It's sort of an "American muscle car made in the UK" - not unlike some of the AMG Mercs.
No, the F-type is not a 911 (despite some of the advertising). But that does not matter - it is a nice car in its own right and long may it live...
