Drove to a conference last week and got caught in a sh@tstorm of snow, ice and road salt. It warmed to a balmy 41 this morning and packed up two buckets, lots of microfiber cloths and a drying towel(waffled) and headed over to a you wash place a few miles away. 20 minutes of wash therapy later and it was actually very clean - not driveway clean - but acceptable such that I no longer daydream of cleaning the 991. I wonder if there is a DSM code for OCD car washing?

Many of us have the same Porsche-itis disease you do. Not sure it is curable either.

There is no cure for being a "Porscheholic" other than keeping the faith.

I am feeling the same this morning..... Here in PA the roads are filthy and no matter where you drive the car picks up grit. Where do you wash? Any special technique you use so you don't rub the dirt / salt into the paint? I found that a lot of times the road film from salt and grime doesn't just rinse - off at the do-it-yourself stalls, so I would be afraid of scratching the body if I were to rinse and rub.....

I am yearning to get the foam gun and double bucket treatment going on my dirty 911. But I fear mister ground hog has something else in store.:eek:

High pressure water(except where the clear bra affixed). Seems to work. Rinsed off the car for about 10 minutes then soaped and used a bunch of microfiber towels to remove the grime - repeatedly rinsing towels in two buckets Used one towel for each body section and six or so for the rear of the car. Found that lightly rubbing towel while spraying soapy water works. I examined the finish later and found no scratches

Washed mine on the driveway evening after washing the garage out as well. Never seen so much salt used before. We can't see the tarmac on northern Virginia roads. Is someone getting a kickback for all the salt sales to the local government? I keep looking for the rocket car doing time trials on Chain Bridge Road. Welcome to Bonneville! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

My office building parking lot is white from the salt. I think they charge me by the pound.

Finally got above 40 in Massachusetts today so I couldn't resist, took out all the toys. These cars do clean up nicely.

just got back (to MA) from FL and washing is on my agenda for tomorrow. Although my car has mostly dust on it from sleeping in the garage :) I only used my CR Spotless once since getting my new ride--I just love using new detailing toys!!

I'm hoping a soaking rain comes soon to clean the streets--so I could go for a drive some day! :(. The white caked roads and play sand don't mix well with my driving habits.

The whole time I was in FL, I was wishing I had my p-car (actually entertained the idea of shipping it down in closed carrier, but I can't let myself be so carazy:)). Sadly an Altima rental was not quite the same (thankfully, I didn't drive it very much). At least I got to thrash my wife's X3 (3.5) when we landed today :D

The last time I detailed mine was...about over a month ago. It still looks like it's freshly detailed. It's my daily driver but work is about 4 miles away and it gets parked in nice temp controlled garage at work and then at home...ah, the Bay Area charms but we could use some rain..!

It will be a bit warmer on Sunday, ideal for a driveway wash to get that last little bit of OCD exercised. .. :D

Dirty cars stress me out. I can't stand to know they are sitting there salt and dirt encrusted. Luckily my garage is heated with a floor drain so I tend to wash any of my cars, not just my 991, often. I've been known to wash my cars twice a week in the winter. The water and gas companies love me.

This pic was taken during one of our recent, and frequent, cold snaps. It was below zero outside but I cranked up the garage heat and washed the 991 with warm water to make the job more pleasant and drying easier. I should have taken a before picture. It wasn't pretty!

It does get a bit messy in close quarters and is a challenge not to spray the other cars but it beats the alternative. Cleaning cars is good therapy for me. :)

I'm also a big fan of cr spotless and a few other toys. I blow out the cr with a little compressor I have after I'm done so it doesn't freeze and bust. Works great.
