The problem with this logic is there's always a better 911 around the corner. So what happens in 6 months when the RS comes out?

Unless you really have F.U. money to spend on constantly trading up, you have to draw the line somewhere

The problem, which was to a great extent mitigated with iOS 7.1, is that your fingerprint changes all the time, especially as your skin dries out and/or hydrates. This is especially problematic in winter, but affects individual users to varying degrees.

Recording the same finger multiple times, especially if done at different times, will help with this too, since the fingerprint ends up being scanned under various conditions. But, as mentioned, they seem to have built more latitude into it in 7.1 so that it's less sensitive to day to day changes in your fingerprint and, although it almost never worked for me for more than a day or two before the update, it almost never fails now.

And, yes, when it does work, unlocking the phone is even simpler than not having a passcode at all. Without the passcode, you have to press the home (or lock) button and then swipe to unlock. With the finger print sensor working, you just press the home button and it unlocks.

Power - 991S has than enough for my needs....I could always use more...could I?

Handling - GT3 is of course in a different league but I haven't come close to feeling compromised by my car and I so like the PDCC SPASM combo.

Comfort - 991S

Flexibility & Rear seats - my nephews love the moments in the S and not being able to have the rear seats and take them would over time become painful.

Tracking & Thrills - I really don't track my cars and doubt that I would the GT3. It was intended for the winding roads around me. The GT3 would be stunning but I am more than satisfied with the flexibility of the 991S.

Aesthetics - whilst I like the aggressive stance of the GT3, I REALLY don't like the rear spoiler. I also think that I would miss the inconspicuous simplicity of the 991S.

And the list continued..... and for me the 991S ticked many of the boxes!

I really cannot understand why I still want the GT3!!!!..... but I so love my 991S!....but....

Hello, Haku. It seems as if you're trying to talk yourself out of the GT3. I love watching when my brother goes through similar bouts:
"The Z51 has all the power I need ... but the ZO6 is a pure monster ..."
Needless to say, he has a ZO6.

You have a gorgeous car that's fast as heck, Haku, but please remember to post some pictures when your GT3 arrives.

Haku -
I went through everything that you express (and even posted about it) years ago with the 997.2 Gt3 and again with the Gt3RS . After many discussions and hours of research and posting I decided that if the car was NOT going to be tracked it is a waste to buy it . Many Gt3 cars and RS cars were bought by guys much like you who simply loved the car but in just a few months the used auto trader ads wre flooded with them . The reason was because they simply are NOT good daily drivers . They are made for winding smooth track roads with no bumps . The ONLY second guessing I have now is based onn how used prices on the 997.2 version have skyrocked . They have actually gone UP in price mostly because many purists are not thrilled with the 991 versions elimination of both the dry sump engine and the manual gearbox as a choice.

By saving the money of NOT buying the GT3RS two years ago I was able to buy other Porsches NOW which are more practical for my needs . My Boxster and cayeene are used daily . In fact my Cayenne is being traded in as I have an order on a Macan Turbo.

My advice is to realy think this over . Picture the differences of driving it on a track vs in the rain in traffic on a city street . Conider the next Porsche (2 years in the future) and the fact that to buy the Gt3 you will have to spend about 60K plus your curent car now . That same 60K can grow over time and buy a Porsche which will see much more use and be two years newer than the Gt3 you bought today.

While I love the GT3, it is in no way 60K (if that is the delta after taxes, etc) better than your gorgeous Carrera S.

But, these decisions are more emotional than practical. Sleep on it a few more days and you will come to the right decision!

Good problems to have. We are very fortunate to have this as a dilemma.

If you need to scratch the itch, maybe like you said, take a look at the new GTI or even the new BMW M235i (getting great reviews) in a funky colour might be cool. And you would still have your platinum baby and some cash to spare!

Good luck !

I was in same situation...other than I currently have the base 991 and definitely need more power....I had a deposit on the GT3...,why....because for some reason I convinced myself I needed that level of performance....but I really don't...I have driven the S and it has plenty of power. When the fire issue happened it gave me time to think and my logic process was exactly the same as yours. I could not find a rationale reason why the GT3 was better for my needs....I can't out drive the S, I like the back seats cause I have little kids, no plans to track it .... Etc. So needless to say....I placed an order for a 14 S with SPASM, Sport chrono and PSE....I think I will be more than happy. Will I ever see a GT3 and wish I had not cancelled my allocation...maybe. But the Ducati, Side x Side and other toys I can buy with the left over money will help get my mind off of it. You have a fantastic car!

Great choice! I have a 14S with 7MT, SPASM, chrono and PSE. I looove the stance of the car with SPASM - so low and aggressive. Power wise, I really can't even use all it's power on the street if I want to keep my license. So you enjoy the power in little spurts here and there. You will love your car!

The one thing the GT3 has is a PDK shifter where the + and - are reversed, so that pulling down is an upshift (the correct way, IMO).

So, if that is important to you...

Thank you all for your input. I'll post my replies tomorrow.
I just got home after a fun day of Autocross.
We had wet and then dry conditions which was great and allowed me to really have fun with my S. I am in awe of what these cars (in any guise) can do! Just a staggering meld of technology and engineering.
This is my friend and instructor on the track with his GT3 (which is waiting for a new engine) replacement 991S. What a lot of fun.... those that haven't done an autocross, do it! You will love it.

I have an order for a GT3, currently waiting for Porsche to figure it out, likely a mid summer delivery.

I've done the C2S, C4S vs GT3 in the configurator a few times to understand the actual cost differential. The following are configured identical to a GT3 and with the Sport Design Package, and without the Power Kit option.

C2S (lacks deviated stitching, stock on GT3)
www.porsche-code.com/PFXQA789
$128,570

C4S
www.porsche-code.com/PF3RY292
$135,300

GT3
www.porsche-code.com/PFCBQMI0
$147,890

With either the C2S or the C4S I would add the Power Kit.

C2S (lacks deviated stitching, with Power Kit)
$141,570

C4S (with Power Kit)
$148,300

Also remember that the $147,890 price for the GT3 includes the front axle lift at $3490. For a complete apples to apples that should be left out.

GT3 (without front axle lift)
$144,400

Now you can get a discount on an ordered C2S or C4S, of up to maybe 8%. So a C2S could be had for $118k, a C4S for $124k.

So the GT3 is a ~ $20k premium if and only if you keep your options on a C2S or C4S to an absolute minimum. If you want to be closer in power and pop for the Power Kit and want the wide body the difference (C4S to GT3) is about $10k.

In my case the GT3 becomes another car in the stable that will also visit the track. My previous cars include a 2009 Corvette Z06 and a 2010 Corvette ZR1. Current cars in the stable that visit the track include a Cayman R and a Spec Miata (working on comp license with SCCA).

This is all correct . The only point I was emphasizing is that the original poster faces losing money on his current 2013 991S going into the trade to get into a car which might be impractical for street use .

That 60K figure is an estimated price including his 991S trade in value.

Its so funny when I read these types of threads. Let's face it, we can justify our purchase with one simple word (as someone else posted), Desire. No different than being attracted to a beautiful woman (or gorgeous man), but saying to oneself, I love what I have, she's/he's great, but wow, I could have... Wonder how many times that's led to separation/divorce, and then maybe you'll get buyer's remorse for the reasons you like the 991S?

At one time I thought my 997 4S was it. Then I lost her to Hurricane Sandy. Got a new 991S rather than replacing her with another 997. Its dangerous allowing yourself to get in a newer model.

Just a thought.
