Checking In At The Dealer

For those of you who bought their cars at an authorized dealer (i.e. not gray market) and have (or plan to have) it serviced there, I was wondering what the protocols are for checking the vehicle in.

Do they fill out forms for you to sign, inspect it and show any scratches, dents etc. on an illustration, give you a claim stub, etc. etc.?

I brought my car to the dealer today to get my PSE installed and spacers installed (among other things) and the guy (showroom duty manager) told me to just leave key. I asked him if there was any paperwork and he said no and just asked me what needed to be done.

What are your experiences?

My dealer takes a look at the car, but if they are in fact documenting any damage, they don't show that form to me.

PCNA has all the info on your car in their central data base. This is linked directly to the authorized dealers.

Never got any paperwork from them, just the key to the loaner car. All in all pretty seamless.

Noted that you are located in Manilla. The operating procedures there may be entirely different from what is required in NA market from dealers. At a minimum I would think they should document the basics for your car - mileage in, customer requests, or problems. I have never had a dealer in NA market take pics or otherwise document scratches, dings etc.

The dealer in NA must provide the car owner with an estimated cost, high-level view of the work to be performed, and the owner typically signs the paper to indicate an understanding of what the service adviser has estimated. The car owner is then provided with a copy of the paperwork to document the transaction. I am probably missing something, but this is what I recall as the procedure -- at just about any "authorized" dealer, regardless of make of car, etc. I think this procedure is primarily due to legal liability pressures on dealers here in the States.

Good Luck!
