Trading my base 991 for 981 Cayman S
Thanks for all the well wishes. I am scheduled to pick up the Cayman on Friday. I plan on enjoying the 911 everyday until then.
Yesterday the dealer let me know that they made an error in my lease calculation and my monthly for the Cayman was actually going DOWN $40/mo. This is the first time I have actually seen PFS with a really competitive lease program on the Cayman with a lease payment that is actually in line with what I paid in the past for comparably priced BMWs.
I am still have swirl fear and spent a good amount of time last night researching polishes and the CR Spotless water system. I haven't had a black car in years.

Hey, what's going on here. Someone is giving up a 991 and getting a CAYMAN and all the responses have been civilized and supporting (well, except for the entry level one)? LOL
The first car I *almost* bought on my Porsche quest was a slightly used black/black CS with PDK. They are really fun, although once I drove a 991, especially with manual transmission, I stopped shopping Caymans. I haven't used the frunk yet in my six months with the 991, but enjoy the ability to toss stuff in the back seats as well as the more open feel of the cabin. But the Cayman is a heck of a car. Good luck with it!

My automotive ADD has taken over once again and I have decided to take advantage of Porsche's pull ahead program to get out of my 991 lease 12 months early and get into a new Cayman S.
The 991 is a base 7MT and has been great. When I got it two years ago I backed out of a brand new Boxster S to get a back seat for my sons. Now, two years later, my boys have grown like weeds and no longer fit there.
The Cayman is black on black (looks great but not my first choice from an upkeep perspective), and loaded with pdk, premium, sport chrono, PASM, info/Bose, Carrera Classics and Sport Design steering wheel. It's a Launch car that's been sitting on the dealer's lot for over a year but has 50 miles on it. Had I been buying the car, the color and lot time would have been a deal killer for me. But since I am leasing it for only 30 months, what the hell. It will be under warranty the entire duration and when the swirling gets bad, it'll be time to give it back.
My dealer is great and made me an unbelievable offer on the car - this will be my third car from them since 2011. The MSRP is just shy of $83k. They are selling the car at invoice, resulting in a monthly lease payment, including sales tax, of $883/mo for 30 months/7,500 miles with only first month and fees up front.
I spent a fair amount of time test driving the car yesterday. The mid engine layout is so balanced and the entire interior serves as an echo chamber for the glorious engine noise. I have been a manual transmission hold out but the PDK with paddles was just awesome.

Don't do it
Hey I went the other direction-I custom ordered a '14 BS w/PDK and switched at the very last minute (both cars were at the dealer) to a '14 C2 Cab. I really wanted the extra room in the cabin (coming from a couple 3-Series) and a quieter environment since I thought the BS had more road noise than I wanted to deal with on longer trips. And I liked the exhaust note better on the 911 but maybe that was just the way I played it out with the 7MT...

I think we are all ADD here to some extent.
And yes I had ordered the Burmester in the BS and got a chance to listen to it. It is worth it IMO.

Cateatesq- I feel partially responsible for your actions since my post about pull aheads
With that being said, you will love the 981. I went from one to my 991 to get the backseat. By the time my lease is up, I won't need the backseat and will get into a 981 GTS.
Suzy is right on with her points.

I came from a cayman S to my 991...didn't mind giving up the cayman S and would never go back. I leased the cayman...purchased the 991.
I don't drive hard enough to push any of the dynamic limits on either car but the 991 is a better daily driver hands down.
best of luck with your new ride.

I went from 981S to 991. The 981S feels quicker, but its all bark and not much bite. The 3.4L in it falls on its face mid corner, where as the 991's torque curve keeps climbing and climbing.
I love the Cayman S, but there is nothing like driving a 911!

I believe that a Golf or a Civic is an entry-level car. I'd call a Cayman S an entry-level Porsche sports car (because really the Macan would now be the entry-level Porsche.) Gotta love "forum-world" where one could think of an $80K car as entry-level....
